WE MAKE PEOPLE INTO PRODUCERS, NOT JUST CONSUMERS, OF MEDIA BY PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE BASIC TRAINING; MASTER-LEVEL ADVANCED INSTRUCTION; ACCESS TO FULLY EQUIPPED DIGITAL PRODUCTION FACILITIES; A CONTENT-RICH WEBSITE; TWO CABLE CHANNELS DELIVERED TO EVERY SUBSCRIBER IN ARLINGTON; AND A LPFM RADIO STATION. MEDIA TRAINING: ARLINGTON COMMUNITY ACCESS CORPORATION (DBA ARLINGTON INDEPENDENT MEDIA, AIM) PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE BASIC TRAINING AND MASTER-LEVEL ADVANCED INSTRUCTION IN AUDIO, VIDEO AND DIGITAL MEDIA RECORDING, EDITING, POST-PRODUCTION AND DISTRIBUTION. THIS YEAR WE MOVED ALL OF OUR TRAINING TO VIRTUAL PLATFORMS, FORGOING FOR SAFETYS SAKE IN THE PANDEMIC THE USUAL HANDS-ON OPPORTUNITIES STUDENTS VALUE, BEING TRAINED IN FULLY-OPERATIONAL STUDIOS. OUR COURSE PORTFOLIO CHANGES WITH COMMUNITY NEEDS AND THIS YEAR WE FOCUSED TRAINING ON FREE SOFTWARE AND EQUIPMENT READILY AVAILABLE FROM HOME, HELPING TO ENSURE PEOPLE COULD CONTINUE TO BE PRODUCERS, NOT JUST CONSUMERS, OF MEDIA AT A TIME WHEN MEDIA CONSUMPTION WAS AT ALL-TIME HIGHS.
MEDIA PRODUCTION FACILITIES: IN A TYPICAL YEAR, ARLINGTON COMMUNITY ACCESS CORPORATION (DBA ARLINGTON INDEPENDENT MEDIA, AIM) FULLY EQUIPPED MEDIA PRODUCTION FACILITIES -- INCLUDING A TV RECORDING STUDIO AND CONTROL ROOM, AUDIO PRODUCTION SUITE, LIVE RADIO BROADCAST BOOTH, AND CLASSROOM FOR HANDS-ON INSTRUCTION IN ALL STAGES OF DIGITAL MEDIA PRODUCTION AND EDITING WOULD BE BUSTLING WITH ACTIVITY SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. IN THE PANDEMIC, ACCESS TO OUR FACILITIES WAS SEVERELY CURTAILED AND MEMBERS WORKED MOSTLY REMOTELY, FROM HOME. NONETHELESS, OUR FACILITIES PLAYED HOST TO COUNTY ARTS AND LOCAL BUSINESS DISTRICT PROGRAMMING, ENABLING THE COMMUNITY TO PARTAKE OF PROGRAMS NOT OTHERWISE ACCESSIBLE.
