NAPCA'S MISSION IS TO PRESERVE AND PROMOTE THE DIGNITY, WELL-BEING, AND QUALITY OF LIFE OF ASIAN AMERICANS, NATIVE HAWAIIANS, AND PACIFIC ISLANDERS (AANHPIS) AS THEY AGE.

NAPCA IS ONE OF 19 NATIONAL GRANTEES FOR THE SENIOR COMMUNITY SERVICE EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM (SCSEP) ADMINISTERED BY THE US DEPARTMENT OF LABOR. THE SCSEP IS FOCUSED ON SERVING LOW-INCOME OLDER ADULTS (AGE 55+) BY PROVIDING PARTICIPANTS WITH COMMUNITY SERVICE TRAINING WHILE RECEIVING A SUBSIDIZED WAGE BASED ON THE HIGHEST MINIMUM WAGE OF THE LOCAL AREA, THIS TRAINING HELPS PARTICIPANT TO TRANSITION TO PERMANENT FULL-TIME OR PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT. IN FY2021, NAPCA HAS PROVIDED COMMUNITY SERVICE AND EMPLOYMENT TRAINING TO 871 LOW INCOME, IMMIGRANT AND REFUGEE OLDER ADULTS WITH BARRIERS TO EMPLOYMENT IN 62 COUNTIES ACROSS 7 STATES.
ASSISTED THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY (EPA) IN MEETING ENVIRONMENTAL MANDATES BY MATCHING QUALIFIED OLDER WORKERS 55 YEARS OF AGE AND OLDER WITH TEMPORARY EMPLOYMENT. NAPCA PROVIDED IN-PERSON AND REMOTE FULL AND PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT TO OLDER ADULTS; THIS WORK WAS BASED OUT OF 18 CITIES ACROSS 10 STATES AND ASSISTED OLDER ADULTS WITH INCREASING THEIR TECHNICAL SKILLS AND ACCESSING NEW TRAINING OPPORTUNITIES WHILE CONTRIBUTING TO THE ENVIRONMENT AND TO THEIR OWN FINANCIAL WELL-BEING. ASSIGNMENTS INCLUDED CLERICAL, SCIENTIFIC, AND FIELD POSITIONS.
NAPCA IS ONE OF SIX NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS IMPLEMENTING THE NATIONAL AGING RESOURCE CONSORTIUM ON RACIAL AND ETHNIC MINORITY SENIORS, WHICH WAS ESTABLISHED BY THE ADMINISTRATION ON COMMUNITY LIVING (ACL) IN 2012. THE CONSORTIUM SERVES AS AN INTERCONNECTED RESOURCE CENTER FOR THE AGING NETWORK. IN ADDITION TO OTHER TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE DELIVERED BY NAPCA THROUGH THIS COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT, NAPCA'S CALL CENTER IS PROVIDED AS A RESOURCE TO THE AGING NETWORK, AND SERVES AS A LINKAGE BETWEEN ASIAN AMERICAN, NATIVE HAWAIIAN, AND OTHER PACIFIC ISLANDER (AANHPI) OLDER ADULTS AND CAREGIVERS, AND MAINSTREAM AGING ORGANIZATIONS.
TO BOLSTER IN-LANGUAGE DIRECT SERVICES THROUGH THE CALL CENTER, AND THE RESEARCH PARTICIPATION OF AANHPI OLDER ADULTS AND CAREGIVERS, NAPCA HAS RECEIVED SEVERAL ADDITIONAL GRANTS. EXTERNAL PARTNERS, SUCH AS THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA SAN FRANCISCO, THE DIVERSE ELDERS COALITION, THE ASIAN & PACIFIC ISLANDER AMERICAN HEALTH FORUM (APIAHF), CALIFORNIA PUBLIC HEALTH INSTITUTE, AARP, THE TIDES CENTER, AND OTHERS HAVE WORKED WITH NAPCA AS A TRUSTED ALLY CAPABLE OF OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT OF AANHPI OLDER ADULTS AND CAREGIVERS.
