WE MAKE THEATER FROM MUSIC: TRANSFORMING ARTISTS, AUDIENCES, AND COMMUNITY BY DISRUPTING EXPECTATIONS, NOURISHING EMPATHY, STIMULATING INSIGHT, AND DEEPENING THE CONVERSATION.

IN SERIES HAD A HUGELY SUCCESSFUL 2022-2023 SEASON, WITH FIVE FULLY PRODUCED MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS, EMPLOYING OVER 180 ARTISTS. IN SEPTEMBER 2022 PRESENTED THE NIGHTSONG OF ORPHEUS IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THEATRE NOHGAKU. IN NOVEMBER, IN SERIES MOUNTED AN INNOVATIVE STAGE PRODUCTION OF MOZART'S MASTERPIECE REQUIEM MASS IN COMBINATION WITH MUSIC OF TWO BRILLIANT 20TH CENTURY COMPOSERS, LILI BOULANGER AND CLAUDE VIVIER. IN FEBRUARY 2023, NATHANIEL DETT'S THE ORDERING OF MOSES - CELEBRATED OVER 100 DC BLACK ARTISTS FROM ALL DISCIPLINES, AND INCLUDED WALKING TOURS OF DC NEIGHBORHOODS AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH VARIOUS FAITH COMMUNITIES. IN APRIL OF 2023 PREMIERED A NEW PRODUCTION OF COMPOSER JOHN ADAMS AND POET JUNE JORDAN'S SEMINAL COLLABORATION, I WAS LOOKING AT THE CEILING AND THEN I SAW THE SKY. IN SERIES FINAL PRODUCTION, CHUCK AND EVA, CELEBRATED DC MUSIC LEGEND CHUCK BROWN WITH A PROGRAM INCLUDING DC JAZZ ARTISTS AT THE TRUE REFORMER HALL. ALL PRODUCTIONS THIS SEASON PLAYED TO SOLD-OUT AUDIENCES. THE SEASON INCLUDED PERFORMANCES IN ALL 8 WASHINGTON, DC WARDS AND BALTIMORE, MD, AND OVER A DOZEN ADDITIONAL OUTREACH FREE ACTIVITIES, AS WELL AS FREE FILM SCREENINGS, COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS, AND FIELDTRIP PERFORMANCES. WE ALSO PRODUCED A NUMBER OF DIGITAL WORKS USING DC ARTISTS AND FILMMAKERS, MAINTAINING OUR DIGITAL FOOTPRINT FOLLOWING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
