RESEARCH AND EDUCATION: TCNP ENGAGES IN PUBLIC EDUCATION, CONFERENCES AND ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSIONS, SPEAKING EVENTS, MEDIA, AND RELATED PROGRAMMING TO AFFECT POLICIES SEEN AS ESSENTIAL TO OUR COUNTRY'S NATIONAL SECURITY.THESE ADVOCACY ACTIVITIES ARE NONPARTISAN, AND TAKE PLACE ACROSS THE UNITED STATES. ISSUES ARE CHOSEN FOR THEIR SALIENCE TO AMERICA'S SECURITY IN THE 21ST CENTURY - FROM THE IMPORTANCE OF AMERICAN LEADERSHIP GLOBALLY, TO INVOLVING SUBNATIONAL LEADERS IN NATIONAL SECURITY, AND OTHER POLICY CHOICES THAT AFFECT WHETHER AMERICA CAN REMAIN A STRONG COUNTRY WHOSE POLICIES ARE BASED IN OUR FOUNDING VALUES. ISSUES MAY INVOLVE WORKING WITH A NUMBER OF OTHER ORGANIZATIONS WHO SHARE OUR POLICY VIEWS, AND MAY BE ENGAGED IN UNDER A PROJECT TITLE SUCH AS "OPERATION FREE" THAT DENOTES ACTIVITIES ACROSS A GROUP OF ORGANIZATIONS.

CITY AND STATE DIPLOMACY: THIS PROJECT SEEKS TO DEEPEN THE LINKS BETWEEN WASHINGTON, DC AND STATES AND CITIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY SO THAT FOREIGN POLICY CAN BETTER DELIVER FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THIS SUBNATIONAL DIPLOMACY EFFORT BUILDS UPON TRUMAN'S "BROADENING DIPLOMATIC ENGAGEMENT ACROSS AMERICA" REPORT THAT INFORMED THE CREATION OF A UNIT FOR SUBNATIONAL DIPLOMACY AT THE US DEPARTMENT OF STATE. WE ARE INCREASINGLY FOCUSED ON SHARING LESSONS GLOBALLY ABOUT THE FUNCTIONING OF DEMOCRACY AT THE SUBNATIONAL LEVEL.

IMMIGRATION: THE CURRENT NATIONAL CONVERSATION AROUND IMMIGRATION DEMANDS NEW VOICES AND NEW IDEAS. TRUMAN IS UNDERTAKING A SERIES OF TIMELY PROJECTS FOCUSED ON HOW TO ADDRESS CHALLENGES AT THE US-MEXICO BORDER AND HOW AMERICAN CITIES AND STATES CAN EXCHANGE BEST PRACTICES ON CREATING WELCOMING COMMUNITIES FOR MIGRANTS.
