Part 3 - Line 4a
ONE OF OUR ORGANIZATIONS MAIN PURPOSES IS TO BRING AWARENESS TO OUR COMMUNITY ABOUT THE HORRIFIC TREATMENT OF OUR CANINE COMPANIONS IN THE WORLD OF ILLEGAL DOG FIGHTING. THIS ILLEGAL SPORT WHERE DOGS ARE TRAINED TO FIGHT TO THE DEATH AGAINST ONE ANOTHER TO WIN THEIR OWNERS MONEY CLAIMS AN ESTIMATED 16,000 DOG A YEAR. MANY OF WHOM NEVER MAKE IT TO THE FIGHT RING, MANY ARE USED PURELY AS BAIT DOGS, LIKE WE BELIEVE HUEY WAS. BAIT DOGS ARE NOT USED TO FIGHT, BUT MERELY USED TO TRAIN FIGHTING DOGS HOW TO RIP ANOTHER DOG APART.
HUEYS HEROES READING PROGRAM WAS DESIGNED TO HELP READERS OF ALL AGES IMPROVE THEIR READING SKILLS, WHILE SHARING THOSE SKILLS WITH ANIMALS IN A SHELTER. PARTICIPANTS CAN USE THE PROGRAM TO LEARN THE FUNDAMENTAL BASICS OF READING (EARLY STAGE READERS), INCREASE THEIR ABILITY TO READ TO A NON-JUDGMENTAL LISTENER, AND/OR SHARE THEIR LOVE OF READING WITH AN ANIMAL THAT LONGS FOR AND BENEFITS FROM COMPANIONSHIP.
