PARA COLLABORATES WITH STRATEGIC PARTNERS TO PROTECT THE WATER LAND AND WILDLIFE OF THE PATAGONIA MOUNTAINS AND SONOITA CREEK WATERSHED FROM THE NEGATIVE IMPACTS OF MODERN INDUSTRIALIZED MINING WORKING TO ASSURE THAT ANY MINING ACTIVITIES MEET THE HIGHEST SCIENCE-BASED STANDARDS OF PROTECTION OF OUR REGION'S NATURAL ASSETS AND SUPPORTING THE EXPANSION OF THE NATURE BASED RESTORATIVE ECONOMY . ACTIVITIES INCLUDE MONITORING MINING ACTIVITY AND MOUNTING LEGAL CHALLENGES IF EXPERTS AGREE THAT STATE AND FEDERAL AGENCIES ARE NOT FOLLOWING THEIR OWN REGULATIONS

ADEQ ARIZONA DEPT OF ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY HAS GRANTED SEVERAL PERMITS TO SOUTH32 AN AUSTRALIAN MINING COMPANY PROPOSING TO OPERATE IN THE PATAGONIA MOUNTIANS. PARA HAS OPPOSED THE GRANTING OF THESE PERMITS ON THE GROUNDS THAT THEIR ISSUANCE VIOLATES THE AGENCY'S OWN REGULATIONS AND STATE LAW. ONE OF THESE PERMITS THE AQUIFER PROTECTION PERMIT WILL ALLOW THE DISCHARGE OF 1.6 BILLION GALLONS OF WATER INTO THE CREEKS OF PATAGONIA'S WATERSHED WHICH HYDROLOGISTS THE TOWN OF PATAGONIA AND MANY OTHER INTERESTED STAKEHOLDERS BELIEVE WILL PERMANENTLY AFFECT THE QUALITY AND QUANTITY OF DRINKING WATER AVAILABLE TO THE AREA'S RESIDENTS. THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF THE WATERSHED WILL BENEFIT IF THE MINE IS REQUIRED TO MONITOR ANY DISCHARGE IN ACCORDANCE WITH ADEQ'S OWN RULES AND STATE LAW.
