THE UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI ANNUAL CAMPAIGN FUNDS TWO OF THE LARGEST PROGRAM SERVICES WHICH INCLUDES 25 PUBLIC CHARITABLE PARTNER AGENCIES, ONE UWCEMO INITIATIVE FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD AND COMMUNITY SUPPORT GRANTS FOR THE PARTNER AGENCIES OR OTHER CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS THAT MEET THE REQUIRED CRITERIA FOR ELIGIBILITY AND THE FUNDS WILL BE USED FOR ONE OF THE FOCUS AREAS LISTED BELOW. THE BOARD REVIEWS THE PARTNER AGENCY, EARLY CHILDHOOD AND THE COMMUNITY SUPPORT GRANT APPLICANTS' PURPOSE AND NEEDS AND AWARDS AN ALLOCATION OR GRANT BASED ON CAMPAIGN PLEDGES. UWCEMO FOCUSES ON THE FOLLOWING AREAS WHEN MAKING ALLOCATION AND GRANT AWARD DECISIONS:EDUCATION - HELPING CHILDREN AND YOUTH ACHIEVE THEIR POTENTIAL THROUGH PREVENTION AND INTERVENTION PROGRAMS. INCOME - PROMOTING FINANCIAL STABILITY AND INDEPENDENCE THROUGH PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT SELF-SUFFICIENCY. HEALTH - IMPROVING INDIVIDUALS HEALTH THROUGH AGENCIES THAT PROVIDE SERVICES FOR MEDICAL, DENTAL AND MENTAL HEALTH.
THE THIRD PROGRAM UWCEMO SPENT THE MOST ON WAS THEIR EARLY CHILDHOOD INITIATIVE. THIS INITIATIVE FUNDS TRAINING AND PROVIDES SUPPORT FOR EARLY CHILDHOOD ADMINISTRATORS, EDUCATORS AND PARENTS OF CHILDREN FROM BIRTH THROUGH THIRD GRADE AND AIMS TO IMPROVE OUTCOMES FOR YOUNG CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES. THE INITIATIVE ALSO PROMOTES THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND THE EARLY CHILDHOOD PROFESSION AS WELL AS IDENTIFIES SERVICE GAPS IN THE UNITED WAY OF CENTRAL MISSOURI AREA.
