HABITAT FOR HUMANITY PHILADELPHIA'S HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM BUILDS STRENGTH, STABILITY AND SELF-RELIANCE THROUGH AFFORDABLE HOMEOWNERSHIP. FAMILIES IN THE HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM INVEST SWEAT EQUITY HOURS IN LIEU OF A DOWN PAYMENT, ATTEND HOMEOWNERSHIP AND FINANCE WORKSHOPS, CONTRIBUTE ESCROW PAYMENTS TO COVER CLOSING COSTS, AND PURCHASE THEIR NEW HABITAT HOME WITH AN AFFORDABLE MORTGAGE. HABITAT WORKS WITH VOLUNTEERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO BUILD ALONGSIDE FUTURE HOMEOWNERS AND LEVERAGES DONATIONS OF MONEY AND MATERIALS TO BUILD HOMES. HABITAT HAS SOLD 247 HOMES SINCE 1985.

HOMEOWNERS PAY FOR REPAIRS THROUGH A LOW-COST REPAYMENT PLAN SCALED TO INCOME. HABITAT HAS REPAIRED MORE THAN 799 HOMES SINCE THE PROGRAM'S LAUNCH IN 2010.
THE RESTORE IS A DISCOUNT HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE OPERATED BY HABITAT PHILADELPHIA. THE RESTORE ACCEPTS DONATIONS OF NEW AND GENTLY USED FURNITURE, APPLIANCES, BUILDING SUPPLIES AND HOME GOODS AND RESELLS THEM TO THE PUBLIC AT REDUCED COSTS. IN ADDITION TO DONATED ITEMS, A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF PRODUCTS SOLD ARE PURCHASED BY THE RESTORE FOR RESALE. PROFIT FROM THE RESTORE IS RETURNED TO HABITAT PHILADELPHIA TO FUND HOMEBUILDING AND HOME REPAIR PROJECTS. THE RESTORE IS A LOW COST SOURCE OF HOME GOODS THAT PROVIDES DONORS WITH AN EASY WAY TO DISPOSE OF UNWANTED ITEMS AND MATERIALS THAT MIGHT OTHERWISE BE THROWN AWAY, THEREBY KEEPING GOOD QUALITY, USABLE ITEMS OUT OF THE LANDFILL.
