Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM: WE BUILD NEW HOMES OR PURCHASE DISTRESSED AND BLIGHTED PROPERTIES FOR HOME OWNERSHIP. HOMES ARE BUILT TO MATCH THE NEIGHBORHOOD THEY ARE LOCATED AND ARE CARRIED AT APPRAISED VALUE, USUALLY COMPATIBLE TO SURROUNDING PROPERTIES. VOLUNTEERS ARE UTILIZED FOR CONSTRUCTION AND SUPERVISED BY HABITAT STAFF ADHERING TO STRICT SAFETY PROTOCOLS. FUTURE HOMEOWNERS CONTRIBUTE SWEAT EQUITY BY VOLUNTEERING ON CONSTRUCTION SITES OR IN OTHER HABITAT ACTIVITIES. HOMES ARE SOLD TO FAMILIES BELOW APPRAISED OR MARKET VALUE USING AN AFFORDABLE MORTGAGE. AFFORDABLE MEANS THAT NO MORE THAN 30% OF THE HOUSEHOLD INCOME WOULD BE SPENT FOR HOUSING (MORTGAGE PAYMENT, PROPERTY TAX, AND PROPERTY INSURANCE). WE STRIVE TO PROVIDE HOME OWNERSHIP OPPORTUNITIES TO POPULATIONS THAT HAVE FACED DISCRIMINATION AND SOCIAL INJUSTICE FOR GENERATIONS DUE TO POOR PUBLIC POLICY AND BIAS. IN FY2021, WE BUILT, COMPLETED AND CLOSED ON TWO(2) HOMES.
RESTORE PROGRAM: THE MORRIS HABITAT RESTORE, A RETAIL OUTLET SELLING DONATED NEW AND GENTLY USED FURNITURE, APPLIANCES AND BUILDING SUPPLIES, BENEFITS THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING LOWER-COST ITEMS FOR SALE, AND THE ENVIRONMENT BY KEEPING ITEMS OUT OF THE LANDFILLS. WE ALSO COLLABORATE WITH SOCIAL SERVICE AGENCIES, DONATING A PORTION OF OUR GOODS TO THEIR CLIENTS. THE RESTORE HAS A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT BY ENCOURAGING "REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLING". DONATIONS TO THE RESTORE HAVE KEPT OVER 15,532 TONS OF USABLE BUILDING MATERIALS, FURNITURE, AND APPLIANCES OUT OF LANDFILLS; NET PROCEEDS DERIVED FROM RESTORE OPERATIONS FROM MAY 2007 THROUGH 2021 WERE USED TO BUILD 33 HOMES.
HOME REPAIRS PROGRAM: WE PROVIDE HOMES REPAIRS TO EXISTING LOWER-INCOME HOMEOWNERS WHO DO NOT HAVE THE RESOURCES TO MAKE THE REPAIRS THEMSELVES. IT IS ALSO USED TO MODIFY A HOME TO AN ADAPTIVE USE FOR THE HOMEOWNER DUE TO CHANGES IN THEIR SITUATION. EXAMPLES OF THIS INCLUDE ADDING RAMPS, WALK IN SHOWERS, ENLARGING DOORWAYS, RECONFIGURING BATHROOMS, AND OTHER ACCESSIBILITY NEEDS. TYPICALLY, THE RECIPIENT OF HOME REPAIR INCLUDES VETERANS, SENIOR CITIZENS, PHYSICALLY LIMITED ABILITY PEOPLE, AND THOSE THAT SIMPLY CAN'T AFFORD TO PURCHASE A HOME.
