WE WERE AWARDED THE ENDING THE HIV EPIDEMIC GRANT- A GRANT PASSED FROM THE HEALTH RESOURCES SERVICES ADMINISTRATION TO THE STATE OF OHIO. THIS IS NEW FUNDING FOR US. WE HAVE TWO GRANTS--ONE FOR CARE AND ONE FOR PREVENTION. ON THE CARE SIDE, IT IS ENABLING US TO HIRE NEW TEAM TO PROVIDE INTENSIVE SERVICES FOR NEWLY DIAGNOSED PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV OR THOSE WHO HAVE FALLEN OUT OF CARE. WE ARE HIRING FOR A VARIETY OF POSITIONS INCLUDING PEER NAVIGATORS TO HELP PEOPLE MANEUVER THE COMPLICATED SYSTEM OF CARE. ON THE PREVENTION SIDE, WE HAVE EXPANDED OUR STAFF WITH THESE FUNDS TO ALLOW FOR AN INCREASED PRESENCE IN THE COMMUNITY FOR HIV EDUCATION AND TESTING. CARACOLE ALSO RECEIVED FUNDING TO BUILD A CUSTOMIZED HARM REDUCTION DISPENSING MACHINE AVAILABLE FOR PEOPLE WHO USE DRUGS SEEKING ACCESS TO SAFER INJECTION KITS, SAFER SMOKING KITS, NALOXONE, FENTANYL TEST STRIPS, PREGNANCY TESTS, SYRINGE DISPOSAL AND SAFER SEX KITS. THE MACHINE IS FREE AND AVAILABLE 24/7. THE GOAL IS TO PREVENT DISEASE TRANSMISSION, PROVIDE EDUCATION AND REFERRALS AND PREVENT OVERDOSES.
