Describe the Organization's Mission:

Part 3 - Line 1

HSNEI RESCUES, FOSTERS, AND ADOPTS UNWANTED DOMESTIC CATS AND DOGS. HSNEI ALSO ASSISTS WITH POPULATION CONTROL OF FERAL AND DOMESTIC CATS AND DOGS. HSNEI ALSO PROVIDES EDUCATION OF HUMANE PET TREATMENT AS WELL AS VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

THE ADOPTION, OR REHOMING, OF OTHERWISE UNWANTED DOMESTIC CATS AND DOGS, IS THE PRIMARY PROGRAM.

THE SECOND LARGEST PROGRAM AT HSNEI IS THE ACCEPTANCE OF STRAY AND SURRENDERED CATS AND DOGS. THE PROCESSING OF STRAY PETS INCLUDES INTAKE OF ANIMALS COLLECTED BY LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT. SUCH PETS ARE PROVIDED A SAFE ENVIRONMENT WHERE THEIR BASIC NEEDS, INCLUDING MEDICAL CARE, ARE ADDRESSED. THEY ARE ADVERTISED AND CAN BE RECLAIMED BY THEIR OWNERS DURING A HOLDING PERIOD. IF NOT CLAIMED, THEY ARE EVALUATED FOR ADOPTABILITY. SURRENDERED PETS PROVIDE OWNERS WITH A TRUSTWORTHY SOLUTION AND SO MAY REDUCE THE STRAY POPULATION. THEY ARE EVALUATED FOR ADOPTABILITY AND GIVEN BASIC CARE, INCLUDING MEDICAL ATTENTION.

THE THIRD LARGEST PROGRAM AT HSNEI IS THE REDUCTION OF CAT AND DOG POPULATIONS. WHILE FOSTERING/ADOPTING UNWANTED PETS IS THE PRIMARY MISSION OF HSNEI, STERILIZATION OF PETS IS AN IMPORTANT PREVENTATIVE MEASURE TO REDUCE THE POPULATION OF UNWANTED CATS AND DOGS. AS A RESULT, EDUCATION OF AND FUNDS FOR LOW-INCOME PET OWNERS REGARDING STERILIZATION IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF HSNEI'S MISSION. ASSISTANCE IS ALSO PROVIDED FOR CONSCIENTIOUS CONSTITUENTS WHO SEE THE BENEFITS OF REDUCING THE NUMBER OF FERAL CATS THRU THE "TRAP AND RELEASE" APPROACH. THE TARGETED STERILIZATION OF FERAL CATS IS A PROVEN METHOD FOR REDUCING THEIR POPULATION AND PREVENTING THE SPREAD OF DISEASE.
