AFTER TWO YEARS OF DIGITAL AND HYBRID PERFORMANCES, THE 2022 FRINGE FESTIVAL RETURNED TO THEATERS AND ADDED AN ONLINE SUPPLEMENT CALLED THE FRINGE HANGOVER. THE 29TH ANNUAL EVENT FEATURED 113 SHOWS WITH 535 PERFORMANCES, SELLING 22,000 TICKETS AND PAYING ARTISTS $146,000. AUDIO DESCRIPTION, ASL INTERPRETATION AND CLOSED CAPTIONING SERVICES WERE PROVIDED TO ARTISTS AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO ENSURE AUDIENCES WITH DISABILITIES COULD FULLY PARTICIPATE.
BEYOND THE BOX IS AN ARTIST INCUBATION OPPORTUNITY IN PUBLIC, OUTDOOR PERFORMANCE. INDIVIDUAL PRACTITIONERS, BURGEONING ENSEMBLES AND ESSTABLISHED COMPANIES JOIN AN EQUITABLE COHORT OF THREE ARTISTS/COMPANIES WORKING TOGETHER TO LEARN HOW TO ENGAGE IN PUBLIC, OUTDOOR PERFORMANCES IN A FLUID PEER-TO-PEER MODE WHILE COLLABORATING WITH ORGANIZERS. MODULAR SHORT TAKE PLACE JUNE-SEPTEMBER IN A VARIETY OF LOCATIONS NEAR NICOLLET AVENUE INCLUDING SIDEWALKS, PLAZAS, PARKS, GREENWAYS, PARKING LOTS, ETC. AND ARE DESIGNED TO ENGAGE THE DIVERSE AUDIENCES OF DOWNTOWN MINNEAPOLIS AND CELEBRATE REANIMATION, RENEWAL AND CHANGING RELATIONSHIPS TO PUBLIC SPACES.
