THE MISSION OF THE LUSSIER COMMUNITY EDUCATION CENTER IS BUILDING COMMUNITY, CREATING OPPORTUNITIES, AND ENRICHING EDUCATION.

FACILITATED COMMUNITY PROGRAMMING - A RICH ARRAY OF GROUPS BRING DIVERSE PROGRAMMING TO THE CENTER EVERY DAY. EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES ARE PROVIDED BY THE MADISON SCHOOL DISTRICT (ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AND TEACHER PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT) AND 4-C'S PLAY AND LEARN (KINDERGARTEN READINESS). THE DISTRICT OFFERS ENRICHMENT CLASSES FOR ADULTS, SENIORS, AND YOUNG CHILDREN, AS WELL AS EXERCISE CLASSES FOR ADULTS, SENIORS, AND PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES. BETWEEN 5-10 SERVICE CLUBS AND NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATIONS REGULARLY UTILIZE THE CENTER'S MEETING SPACES. THE LUSSIER COMMUNITY EDUCATION CENTER ALSO PARTNERS WITH NEWBRIDGE TO HOST A WEEKLY SENIOR MEAL AND PROGRAM. A VARIETY OF CULTURAL GROUPS INCLUDING A RUSSIAN SCHOOL AND CHINESE FINE ARTS SCHOOL REGULARLY HELD PROGRAMS AT THE CENTER AS WELL BUT DID NOT USE THE FACILITY IN 2021. IN 2021, COMMUNITY BUILDING & ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMS AND FACILITATING COMMUNITY PROGRAMMING WERE EXTREMELY LIMITED DUE TO THE RESTRICTIONS ASSOCIATED WITH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC.
COMMUNITY BUILDING AND ENGAGEMENT - THROUGH COMMUNITY BUILDING AND ENGAGEMENT, LCEC SERVES AS A FOCAL POINT OF NEIGHBORHOOD ACTIVITY, BUILDING GRASSROOTS LEADERSHIP, AND PROVIDING A VARIETY OF EDUCATIONAL, SOCIAL, RECREATIONAL, AND CIVIC PROGRAMS AND SERVICES PRIMARILY TO LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES, BOTH THROUGH OUR OWN EFFORTS AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH COLLABORATING ORGANIZATIONS. THESE PROGRAMS ARE AIMED AT INCREASING THE SELF-SUFFICIENCY AND QUALITY OF LIFE AS RESIDENTS. MANY LCEC PROGRAMS HAVE BEEN LONGSTANDING, WHILE OTHERS HAVE GROWN ORGANICALLY OUT OF CURRENT COMMUNITY NEED.
THE LUSSIER COMMUNITY EDUCATION CENTER ELEMENTARY PROGRAM PROVIDES AFTER SCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAMMING FOR LOW-INCOME, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN ON MADISON'S WEST AND SOUTHWEST SIDES, FOCUSING ON THE WEXFORD RIDGE APARTMENTS, TREE LANE FAMILY APARTMENTS AND OTHER POCKETS OF POVERTY ON THE WEST SIDE. IN 2021, THE ELEMENTARY PROGRAM PROVIDED 593 HOURS OF PROGRAMMING TO 129 CHILDREN IN KINDERGARTEN TO 5TH GRADE.
