TO BE THE LEADING NONPROFIT PROFESSIONAL SOCIETY IN NORTH AMERICA DEDICATED TO RESEARCH, MENTORING, WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT, AND CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION FOR PHYSICIANS, INVESTIGATORS, AND ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONALS INTERESTED IN ADVANCING CARE FOR PEOPLE WITH HEMOSTATIC AND THROMBOTIC DISORDERS.

GRANTS AND ASSISTANCE: A PRIMARY STRATEGIC OBJECTIVE FOR HTRS IS TO COMBAT THE CRITICAL NATIONAL SHORTAGE OF SKILLED CLINICIANS AND INVESTIGATORS IN BENIGN HEMATOLOGY BY PROVIDING GRANT AWARDS TO SUPPORT INVESTIGATOR-INITIATED RESEARCH FOR HTRS MEMBERS AT ALL CAREER STAGES. HTRS OFFERS GRANT CYCLES FOR EACH OF THE FOLLOWING PROGRAMS ANNUALLY OR BIENNIALLY, USING FUNDS RESTRICTED FOR THIS PURPOSE RAISED FROM PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANIES VIA THEIR INDEPENDENT MEDICAL EDUCATION GRANT PROGRAMS AND/OR OTHER CORPORATE PHILANTHROPY. HTRS AWARD PROGRAMS AIM TO SUPPORT INVESTIGATORS AT CRITICAL STAGES IN THEIR CAREERS, AND INCLUDE THE STUDENT RESEARCH AWARD (AN INTRODUCTION TO RESEARCH IN BENIGN HEMATOLOGY FOR UNDERGRADUATES AND MEDICAL STUDENTS), THE CLINICAL SCHOLAR AWARD (SUPPORTING A FOURTH AND FINAL YEAR OF INTENSIVE CLINICAL TRAINING IN HEMOPHILIA AND RARE BLOOD DISORDERS UNDER THE GUIDANCE OF AN EXPERIENCED MENTOR), THE MENTORED RESEARCH AWARD (TWO-YEAR RESEARCH AWARDS FOR EARLY-CAREER INVESTIGATORS WORKING WITH AN EXPERIENCED MENTOR, DESIGNED TO PREPARE RECIPIENTS TO GATHER DATA AND SUCCESSFULLY APPLY FOR AND OBTAIN FEDERAL RESEARCH FUNDING FROM THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH (NIH), AND THE MID-CAREER RESEARCH AWARD, TWO-YEAR RESEARCH AWARDS FOR INVESTIGATORS AT LEAST 8 YEARS POST-FELLOWSHIP OR POST-DOCTORAL TRAINING, TO BRIDGE THE GAP BETWEEN MENTORED RESEARCH AND THE ABILITY TO SECURE GRANTS FOR INDEPENDENT RESEARCH FROM THE NIH AND OTHER NATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS.
EDUCATION: IN FY 2021, HTRS HELD THE FOLLOWING EDUCATIONAL AND/OR CAREER DEVELOPMENT EVENTS: A VIRTUAL TRAINEE WORKSHOP AND A VIRTUAL RESEARCH COLLOQUIUM HELD PRIOR TO THE FIRST HTRS VIRTUAL SCIENTIFIC SYMPOSIUM IN MARCH 2021; TWO "BEST OF" ABSTRACT REVIEW EVENTS FOR MEMBERS HELD AT HTRS 2021 AND DURING ASH 2021, SPONSORED BY AN EDUCATIONAL GRANT FROM GENETECH, A HYBRID TRAINEE WORKSHOP PRIOR TO ASH 2021 IN ATLANTA, GA, AND SEVERAL CAREER DEVELOPMENT WEBINARS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR FOR MEMBERS OF OUR CAREER DEVELOPMENT NETWORKS, THE FELLOWS NETWORK AND THE JUNIOR FACULTY NETWORK, CONECCTOR.
