TO PROVIDE A WAY FOR INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN THE GARDERE COMMUNITY AND SOUTH BATON ROUGE TO IMPROVE THEIR QUALITY OF LIFE THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH OPENING DOORS AND MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY TO DEVELOP EDUCATIONAL, VOCATIONAL, FINANCIAL, NUTRITIONAL, AND REFERRAL SERVICES THAT WILL MEET IDENTIFIED BASIC NEEDS.

SHEPHERD'S MARKET INCLUDES A FOOD PANTRY PROVIDING FOOD PURCHASED TO SUPPLEMENT THAT SUPPLIED BY THE GREATER BATON ROUGE FOOD BANK, AND EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE PROVIDING FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE ON A LIMITED BASIS(USUALLY ONE TIME BASIS)FOR THOSE IN DIRE SITUATIONS SUCH AS DELINQUENT RENT, UTLILIY PAYMENTS, MEDICAL, OR SIMILAR NEEDS, AS WELL AS AN ANNUAL HOLIDAY TURKEY GIVEAWAY AND DONATIONS TO GARDERE INITIATIVE.
FAMILIES IN TRANSITION PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE ON A LIMITED BASIS, USUALLY LESS THAN SIX MONTH BASIS, TO FAMILIES RECOVERING FROM HARDSHIP.
GARDERE AND OTHER PROJECTS PROVIDES SERVICE PROGRAMS TO MEET IDENTIFIED NEEDS AND IMPROVE LIVES IN THE GARDERE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING THE HOLIDAY STORE INCENTIVE PROGRAM FOR HEAD START PARENTS TO BE ACTIVE IN SCHOOL PARTICIPATION AND EARN CHRISTMAS GIFTS FOR THEIR CHILDREN. THE HEAD START SUMMER PROGRAM SUPPLIES BOOKS AND OTHER EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS FOR HEAD START CHILDREN DURING THE SUMMER BREAK.
