YOUTH DEVELOPMENT IS THE SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL, COGNITIVE, AND PHYSICAL PROCESSES THAT ALL YOUTH UNIQUELY EXPERIENCE FROM BIRTH TO CAREER. AT THE Y, WE KNOW THAT A SUCCESSFUL DEVELOPMENT PROCESS FULFILLS CHILDREN AND TEENS' INNATE NEED TO BE LOVED, SPIRITUALLY GROUNDED, EDUCATED, COMPETENT, AND HEALTHY.
HEALTHY LIVING EMPOWERS ALL SECTORS IN A COMMUNITY TO ADDRESS THE SOCIAL AND ECONOMIC CONDITIONS THAT AFFECT HEALTH. THROUGH SPORTS, SWIM AND RECREATION, IT MEANS THAT ALL INDIVIDUALS HAVE ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOOD, EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES, SAFE NEIGHBORHOODS, JOB SECURITY, SECURE HOUSING, AND AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE.
