EARLY LEARNING INDIANA ADDRESSES SYSTEMIC BARRIERS RELATED TO ACCESS, AFFORDABILITY AND QUALITY OF EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION BY FOCUSING ON A COMMITMENT TO QUALITY, BUILDING AN EFFECTIVE WORKFORCE, CLOSING LOCAL CAPACITY GAPS, GROWING SYSTEM-LEVEL SUPPORTS AND INFLUENCING DEMAND.DAY EARLY LEARNING CENTERS - ELI OPERATES 11 EARLY LEARNING CENTERS IN INDIANA, PROVIDING THE HIGHEST QUALITY EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION FOR MORE THAN 1,000 CHILDREN FROM INFANCY TO PRE-K, INCLUDING A MULTI-SITE EARLY HEAD START PARTNERSHIP. ELI CREATES WORK-BASED PROFESSIONAL LEARNING PROGRAMS FOR EARLY EDUCATION LEADERS, TEACHERS AND CLASSROOM SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS. THESE SCHOLARSHIPS PROVIDE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO FAMILIES WORKING IN ESSENTIAL BUSINESSES TO HELP THEM CONTINUE WORKING AND ENSURE THEIR CHILDREN RECEIVE THE HIGH-QUALITY EARLY CARE AND EDUCATION THEY NEED. COME BACK STRONGER FUND GRANTS - IN RESPONSE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, LILLY ENDOWMENT, INC. AWARDED ELI $25M IN 2020 TO ADMINISTER COVID-RELIEF DOLLARS THROUGH THE COME BACK STRONGER FUND. THIS PROGRAM AIMS TO REINFORCE INDIANA'S SUPPLY OF HIGH-QUALITY EARLY LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES AND SUPPORT PROVIDERS WITH ADDED SAFETY-RELATED EXPENSES AND COVID-19 CHALLENGES.
CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM - THE CHILD AND ADULT CARE FOOD PROGRAM (CACFP) IS A FEDERAL PROGRAM WHICH PROVIDES REIMBURSEMENTS FOR NUTRITIOUS MEALS AND SNACKS TO ELIGIBLE CHILDREN WHO ARE ENROLLED FOR CARE AT PARTICIPATING CHILD CARE CENTERS. ALL DEL CENTERS PARTICIPATE IN CACFP WHICH PROVIDES FOR REIMBURSEMENT AT FREE, REDUCED-PRICE, OR PAID RATES FOR ELIGIBLE MEALS AND SNACKS. CACFP REQUIRES DEL CENTERS TO PLAN AND PREPARE HEALTHY SNACKS FOR ITS CHILDREN AND INCLUDES VARIOUS TRAINING AND OVERSIGHT REQUIREMENTS TO ENSURE HIGH-QUALITY FOOD IS SERVED TO DEL CHILDREN.
