EARLY CHILD DEVELOPMENT: THE CARVER DAY CARE AND PRESCHOOL IS A STATE-LICENSED PROGRAM THAT USES THE CREATIVE CURRICULUM TO PROVIDE CHILD CENTERED ENVIRONMENTS IN LITERACY, MATH, SCIENCE, WRITING ART AND MUSIC FOR AGES 6 WEEKS TO 12 YEARS OLD. CARVER COMMUNITY OFFERS QUALITY CHILDCARE DURING 1ST AND 2ND SHIFT HOURS. THE MISSION OF THE PROGRAM IS TO PROMOTE A HEALTHY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL CHILDREN TO ACHIEVE THE SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, INTELLECTUAL, AND PHYSICAL WELL-BEING NECESSARY FOR THE EFFECTIVE GROWTH LEADING TOWARD FUTURE SUCCESSES. THE PURPOSE/GOAL OF THE CHILDCARE PROGRAM IS: 1. TO TREAT EACH CHILD AS AN INDIVIDUAL; 2. TO PROMOTE SELF-CONFIDENT LEARNERS THROUGH DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PRACTICES; 3. TO ENCOURAGE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION OF THE ENTIRE FAMILY AND THE COMMUNITY. TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS, IT IS OUR OBJECTIVE TO 1. ENCOURAGE PARENT/FAMILY READING AND RELATED ACTIVITIES WITH THEIR CHILDREN. 2. INCREASE CHILDCARE PROVIDERS' KNOWLEDGE OF LITERACY-RELATED ISSUES AMONG CHILDREN 3. INCREASE PARENTS/FAMILIES AND CHILDCARE PROVIDERS' KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS ASSOCIATED WITH EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT PRACTICES. 4. EXPAND ACCESS TO QUALITY EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT. ACCOMPLISHMENTS: SERVED A TOTAL OF 92 CHILDREN SERVED; 100% OF PRE-SCHOOL PARTICIPANTS ARE PREPARED FOR KINDERGARTEN; 90% OF INFANT AND TODDLERS AGES 6 WEEKS TO 24 MONTHS MASTERED THE DEVELOPMENTAL MILESTONES IN LANGUAGE/COGNITIVE, SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL, GROSS MOTOR AND PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT; 90% OF THE FAMILIES SERVED REPORT THEY ARE SATISFIED OVERALL WITH THE QUALITY OF CARE PROVIDED TO THEIR CHILD; MAINTAINED LEVEL 3 ON PATH'S TO QUALITY; 90% OF STAFF WITH 20 HOURS OF PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT TRAINING; 7 FAMILY ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES WERE PROVIDED.CARVER HELD ITS FIRST ANNUAL FAMILY FUN DAY. WE HAD ATTENDANCE 59 FAMILIES IN ATTENDANCE, AND 14 VENDORS FROM THE COMMUNITY. THE OUTCOME OF THE EVENT WAS TO PROVIDE VALUABLE RESOURCES TO THE FAMILIES WE SERVE, ALL WHILE BUILDING A LASTING BOND WITH OUR FAMILIES.
YOUTH PROGRAM: THE YOUTH PROGRAM PROVIDES FUN AND ENLIGHTENING AFTER-SCHOOL AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR STUDENTS IN GRADES K-12. PATHFINDERS IS A 6-WEEK PROJECT-BASED LEARNING SERIES FOCUSING ON SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ART, AND MATH. THE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM IS OFFERED WEEKDAYS FROM 2:30-5:45PM, AT BOTH THE CARVER NEIGHBORHOOD CENTER AND THE CK NEWSOME COMMUNITY CENTER. YOUTH ACTIVITIES INCLUDE: HOMEWORK ASSISTANCE/TUTORING; ALCOHOL TOBACCO OTHER DRUGS PREVENTION; ART & MUSIC EDUCATION; LIFE SPORTS & RECREATION; DIGITAL RECORDING STUDIO; TV PRODUCTION; EDITING LAB; HEALTH FITNESS, AND NUTRITION SCIENCE; COMPUTER LABSIT IS THE PURPOSE/GOAL OF THE CARVER YOUTH PROGRAMS TO IMPACT SCHOOL AGE CHILDREN & YOUTH LIVING IN UNDERSERVED COMMUNITIES THROUGH ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, SELF-ESTEEM, AND LIFE OPPORTUNITIES. CARVER ALSO STRIVES TO RAISE CHILDREN'S SELF-DETERMINATION SKILLS AND SELF-ESTEEM, TO EMPOWER PARENTS, AND TO DEVELOP MEANINGFUL ADULT RELATIONSHIPS WITH PARTICIPANTS.TO ACHIEVE OUR GOALS, IT IS OUR OBJECTIVE TO: 1. INCREASE POST-SECONDARY KNOWLEDGE & PREPARATION, 2. PREPARE STUDENTS TO BE AT OR ABOVE APPROPRIATE READING LEVELS BY THE END OF THIRD GRADE, 3. EXPAND YOUTH OPPORTUNITY FOR ENROLLMENT IN SAFE, HIGH QUALITY AFTER SCHOOL AND OUT OF SCHOOL ACTIVITIES, 4. INCREASE ACCESSIBILITY FOR YOUTH TO HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO EXPLORE FUTURE CAREER OPPORTUNITIES, AND 5. INCREASE HEALTHY BEHAVIOR IN YOUTH AND DECREASE HIGH RISK BEHAVIOR2022 ACHIEVEMENTS: SERVED 95 PARTICIPANTS ACROSS ALL YOUTH PROGRAMS; DEVELOPED A TRANSPORTATION PLAN WITH SOME OF EVSC SCHOOLS TO TRANSPORT STUDENTS TO THE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM; 1,300 HOURS OF YOUTH ACTIVITIES WERE PROVIDED ON WEEKENDS, AFTER SCHOOL, AND DURING SUMMER BREAK; A SURVEY TAKEN BY PARTICIPANTS SHOWED THAT OVER 90% OF PARTICIPANTS ARE CONFIDENT THAT THEY WILL GRADUATE HIGH SCHOOL AND THAT THEY WILL ENROLL IN SOME TYPE OF TRAINING AFTERWARDS.
AARP FOUNDATION EXPERIENCE CORPS: SENIOR HAVE A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO GUIDE THE NEXT GENERATION OF CHILDREN IN EVANSVILLE. THROUGH THE AARP FOUNDATION EXPERIENCE CORPS EVANSVILLE, PARTICIPANTS GIVE BACK TO OUR COMMUNITY AND IMPART VALUABLE EXPERIENCE ON YOUNG MINDS. AARP FOUNDATION EXPERIENCE CORPS EVANSVILLE ACCEPTS VOLUNTEERS INTERESTED IN HELPING CHILDREN WITH READING, MATH, AND SCIENCE.THIS PROGRAM PLACES INDIVIDUALS OVER AGE 50 IN LOCAL SCHOOLS TUTORING AND MENTORING CHILDREN IN KINDERGARTEN THROUGH THE THIRD GRADE. VOLUNTEERS ASSIST 2 -3 DAYS PER WEEK FOR UP TO THREE HOURS A DAY. OUR GOALS ARE TO IMPROVE CHILDREN'S LITERACY, STRENGTHEN OUR COMMUNITY, HELP INSTILL INSPIRATION IN OUR SCHOOLS, AND SUPPORT HARD WORKING TEACHERS.IN 2022, 15 TUTORS VOLUNTEERED IN 6 TITLE I SCHOOLS. A TOTAL OF 84 STUDENTS WE SERVED OF WHICH 83 IMPROVED IN THEIR DIBELS LITERACY PERFORMANCE BY END OF THE 2022 SCHOOL YEAR. OUR TUTORS REPORTED A 100% INCREASE IN SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING SKILLS. 100% BELIEVE THAT OUR PROGRAM DIRECTLY DECREASED THEIR FEELINGS OF LONELINESS, WHILE 95% BELIEVE THAT THE LITERACY PROGRAM DIRECTLY EFFECTS THEIR OVERALL WELL-BEING IN A POSITIVE WAY. 76% OF THE STUDENTS IMPROVED IN THEIR READING, IMPROVED BEHAVIOR, AND TEACHER SATISFACTION, WHILE 83% OF STUDENTS BELIEVE THAT EC HELPED IMPROVE THEIR CONFIDENCE IN READING. EC EVANSVILLE, HOSTED BY CARVER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION IS PROVEN TO BE A REWARDING EXPERIENCE FOR SENIORS, STUDENTS AND FAMILIES AND IT'S JUST ANOTHER WAY WE STRIVE TO ENLIGHTEN GENERATIONS.
