CASA CORNELIA LAW CENTER (CCLC) PROVIDES FREE LEGAL SERVICES TO SAN DIEGO'S MOST VULNERABLE RESIDENTS, INDIGENT IMMIGRANTS WITH LEGITIMATE CLAIMS TO IMMIGRATION RELIEF. WE FOCUSED ON 3 MAIN AREAS IN 2021 - (1) UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN, 1,007 CHILDREN EITHER DETAINED BY IMMIGRATION AUTHORITIES OR NON- DETAINED CHILDREN IDENTIFIED IN THE COMMUNITY, (2) VICTIMS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, HUMAN TRAFFICKING, AND OTHER SERIOUS CRIMES, ASSISTING 428 INDIVIDUALS, AND (3) RESPONDED TO 514 ASYLUM SEEKERS WHO HAVE FLED TO THE US DUE TO PERSECUTION OR TORTURE. IN 2021 CCLC CONTINUED TO SERVE THROUGH THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC AND HARSH IMMIGRATION POLICIES ASYLUM SEEKERS AND UNACCOMPANIED CHILDREN ENTERING THE US FLEEING EXTREME VIOLENCE AND ABUSE IN THEIR HOME COUNTRIES. IN 2021, CCLC RESPONDED TO 1,943 INDIVIDUALS FROM 58 NATIONS SPEAKING 44 LANGUAGES. NOT INCLUDED IN THE PROGRAM EXPENSES IS THE SIGNIFICANT VALUE OF VOLUNTEER LEGAL SERVICES ALONE IN THE AMOUNT OF 399,096.
