SUPPORT LITIGATION EFFORTS TO UPHOLD STATE AND FEDERAL HOUSING LAWYES IN MY BACK YARD (YIMBY) ENFORCED CALIFORNIA'S HOUSING ACCOUNTABILITY ACT BY SENDING LETTERS TO CITIES CONSIDERING GENERAL-PLAN-COMPLIANT HOUSING PROJECTS. THE LETTERS INFORMED CITIES OF THEIR OBLIGATIONS UNDER THE LAW TO APPROVE THESE PROJECTS. LETTERS: YIMBYLAW.ORG/RESOURCESYIMBY ALSO EXPANDED THE DEFINITION OF "HOUSING" PROTECTED UNDER THE LAW BY MOUNTING A LAWSUIT AGAINST SIMI VALLEY. THE LAWSUIT FOUGHT THE CITY'S CLAIM THAT GROUP HOUSING IS NOT HOUSING.YIMBY ALSO ENFORCED TENANT-PROTECTING DEMOLITION CONTROLS OF SB 330, ENSURING THAT RENTERS WIN WHEN NEW HOUSING IS ADDED. IN ALHAMBRA, WE SAVED SEVERAL RENTER HOUSEHOLDS FROM BEING DISPLACED BY INVOKING SB 330.YIMBY ENFORCED THE DOWNZONING PROHIBITION OF SB 330 IN CULVER CITY, PREVENTING THE CITY FROM FRUSTRATING NEW STATE ADU LAW BY "DOWNZONING" THEIR SINGLE FAMILY ZONES.PRODUCE EDUCATIONAL CONTENT TO GROW PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS AROUND EFFECTIVE HOUSING ADVOCACYYIMBY LAUNCHED OUR HOUSING ELEMENTS PROJECT, WHICH WILL HOLD CITIES ACCOUNTABLE TO BUILDING COLLECTIVELY OVER 2 MILLION NEW HOMES AS PART OF THE 6TH CYCLE RHNA HOUSING ELEMENTS PROCESS. IN 2020, WE HIRED TWO HOUSING ELEMENTS COORDINATORS WHO WILL TRAIN AND ACTIVATE A STATEWIDE TEAM OF VOLUNTEERS AND LEGAL EXPERTS TO ANALYZE CITY PLANS, FLAG NONCOMPLIANCE, AND COMPEL CITIES TO MAKE IMPROVEMENTS.YIMBY ALSO PRODUCED A TOTAL OF 27 EDUCATIONAL EVENTS FOR THE PRO-HOUSING COMMUNITY ACROSS 2020, ENGAGING OVER 3,000 ATTENDEES.
