THE MUSEUM FOUNDATION OPERATES THE MUSEUM THROUGH A SUCCESSFUL PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF PACIFIC GROVE AND SERVES AS A HUB FOR SCIENTIFIC AND HISTORICAL LEARNING FOR OVER 50,000 PEOPLE EACH YEAR THROUGH EXHIBITIONS, EDUCATION PROGRAMS, AND COMMUNITY EVENTS.

EXHIBITIONS: SINCE ITS BEGINNING IN 1883, THE MUSEUM HAS EXCELLED AT TEACHING THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE NATURAL WORLD THROUGH A VARIETY OF EXHIBITIONS DISPLAYING MONARCH BUTTERFLIES, LOCAL BIRDS AND WILDLIFE, GEOLOGY AND CULTURAL ARTIFACTS TO NAME A FEW. THIS YEAR THE MUSEUM OPENED TWO PERMANENT EXHIBITS: CHANGES OF MONTEREY COUNTY, THE NATURE EXCHANGE, AND REFRESHED THE MONARCH EXHIBIT AND LOBBY. THE MUSEUM HOSTED 3 SPECIAL EXHIBITS INCLUDING REMEMBERING 1883, SHIFTING TIDES, AND THE ILLUSTRATING NATURE SHOW.


EDUCATION: THE PACIFIC GROVE MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY'S EDUCATION PROGRAMS INCLUDE FREE SCHOOL FIELD TRIPS, FREE SCIENCE SATURDAYS (OFFERED 9 TIMES PER YEAR) AND HANDS-ON COMMUNITY SCIENCE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL AGES. OUTDOOR SCIENCE EDUCATION INCLUDES LIMPETS (LONG TERM MONITORING PROGRAM AND EXPERIMENTAL TRAINING FOR STUDENTS) AND WATERSHED EXPLORERS, WHICH OFFERS WATERSHED EDUCATION FIELD TRIPS. THIS YEAR THE MUSEUM OFFER ADULT LEARNER COURSES, PREK CURIOSITY CLUB AND ADDED A NEW MIDDLE SCHOOL AND TEEN PROGRAM. OVER 10,000 STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN THE MUSEUM'S PROGRAMS EACH YEAR.
