EDUCATIONAL OUTREACH. OCAAR OFFERS EDUCATIONAL SESSIONS ON ADDICTION AND RECOVERY TAILORED TO A VARIETY OF GROUPS, INCLUDING CERTIFIED PEER RECOVERY SUPPORTERS, CLINICAL PROFESSIONALS, FAMILY MEMBERS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. THE MORE OPPORTUNITIES OHIOANS HAVE TO LEARN FACTS ABOUT THIS CHRONIC DISEASE THEN THE NEGATIVE MISCONCEPTIONS AND MISPERCEPTIONS CAN BE CHALLENGED TO CHANGE. OUTREACH INCREASES KNOWLEDGE ABOUT ADDICTION AND RECOVERY IN ORDER TO CHANGE PUBLIC PERCEPTION SURROUNDING ADDICTION AND CREATE MORE INFORMED CITIZENS THROUGH EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND DELIBERATIVE DIALOGUE.

WHEN INDIVIDUALS ARE SUPPORTED BY THE MEMBERS OF THEIR SOCIETY, WE ALL REAP THE BENEFITS OF THEIR ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN MAKING OUR WORLD A BETTER PLACE.
ADVOCACY. OCAAR IS AN ADVOCACY ORGANIZATION THAT IS FOCUSED ON EMPOWERING OHIOANS WITH SUBSTANCE USE DISORDER TO ADVOCATE ON THEIR OWN BEHALF AND ON BEHALF OF THEIR COMMUNITIES TO CREATE STATEWIDE AND NATIONAL CHANGE IN POLICY REGARDING HOW ADDICTION AND RECOVERY IS ADDRESSED. THE PURPOSE OF THESE SERVICES IS TO PREPARE OHIOANS WITH THE SKILLS AND TOOLS NECESSARY TO BE AN EFFECTIVE ADVOCATE FOR THEMSELVES AND FOR THEIR COMMUNITIES. THIS WILL ACCOMPLISH CHANGING SOCIETAL PERCEPTIONS AND ALLOW FOR A VOICE TO THE CURRENT POLICY DECISION STRUCTURE.
