HEALTH PROGRAM - THOREAU COMMUNITY CENTER (TCC) HAS A COMPREHENSIVE CONTINUUM OF CARE FOR ADOLESCENT SUICIDE PREVENTION. THIS CONTINUUM OF CARE PROMOTES MENTAL AND BEHAVIORAL HEALTH WELLNESS THAT CONTINUES THROUGH A FULL RANGE OF EDUCATION, PREVENTION, INTERVENTION, CASE MANAGEMENT AND OUTREACH SERVICES. OUR PROGRAM IS FOCUSED ON A MODEL OF A COLLABORATIVE OF COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIPS. CONSEQUENTLY, THE EFFORTS TO CREATE PREVENTION-PREPARED COMMUNITIES RELY ON THE COLLABORATION AMONG STAKEHOLDERS AND PARTNERSHIPS WITH COMMUNITY AGENCIES. TCC IS TO CREATE PREVENTION-PREPARED COMMUNITIES IN WHICH TO IMPLEMENT OUR TRIBAL YOUTH SUICIDE PREVENTION AND EARLY INTERVENTION STRATEGIES GROUNDED IN COLLABORATION AMONG MANY STAKEHOLDER GROUPS (E.G., CHAPTER HOUSES, SCHOOLS, EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS, JUVENILE JUSTICE, FOSTER CARE SYSTEMS, SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMS, AND OTHER CHILD AND YOUTH SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS).
EDUCATION PROGRAM - THE EFFORTS OF THOREAU COMMUNITY CENTER YOUTH BOARD PROGRAM HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE COMMUNITY. THERE ARE LOCAL TRAININGS ON SUICIDE AWARENESS AND ACTIVITIES OFFERED TO THE YOUTH AND STUDENTS IN MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL. THE AWARENESS OF SUICIDE HAS MADE GREAT STRIDES IN GETTING MORE PEOPLE, ESPECIALLY YOUTH, INVOLVED. THIS YOUTH BOARD HAS TAKEN THE INITIATIVE TO INCORPORATE SUICIDE AWARENESS MESSAGES IN THEIR PLANNED EVENTS SUCH AS THE SKATE PARK EVENT, SACRED LIFE POWWOW, MOVIE NIGHTS, ETC. THE YOUTH HAVE ALSO EXPRESSED AN INTEREST IN HOLDING SOME ADDITIONAL COMMUNITY EVENTS ON SUICIDE AWARENESS. THE YOUTH BOARD MEMBERS HAVE ALSO BEEN ATTENDING MONTHLY MEETINGS TO HELP ENGAGE YOUTH IN PARTICIPATING MORE IN THEIR COMMUNITIES TO RAISE AWARENESS ON PARTICULAR TOPICS THAT NEED TO BE ADDRESSED SUCH AS SUICIDE, SUBSTANCE ABUSE, ETC.
