INDIVIDUAL/TREATMENT SERVICES: THE PROGRAMMING FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH APHASIA DURING 2021 REQUIRED A SHIFT IN PLATFORM DUE TO THE GLOBAL PANDEMIC. OUR ORGANIZATION IS COMMITTED TO PROVIDING CONNECTION, LANGUAGE STIMULATION ACTIVITIES AND COMMUNICATIVE OPPORTUNITY. OUR SUPPORTIVE AND ACCESSIBLE SERVICES WERE PROVIDED VIA ZOOM WITH 19 DIFFERENT GROUPS OFFERED 6 DAYS A WEEK. GROUPS MAINTAINED A LIFE PARTICIPATION MODEL, OFFERING VARIED CONTENT FROM BOOK CLUBS TO MOVIE GROUPS TO MUSIC THERAPY SERVICES. TAP'S SERVICE RANGE INCREASED SIGNIFICANTLY VIA THIS PLATFORM, NOW ALLOWING ACCESS TO PROGRAMMING TO INDIVIDUALS THROUGHOUT NORTH CAROLINA.
FAMILY/FRIEND AND EDUCATION/TRAINING SERVICES: OUR SERVICE TO ALL OF THOSE IMPACTED BY APHASIA WERE SIMILARLY IMPACTED BY THE PANDEMIC AND THE TRAINING HAD TO BE COMPLETED VIRTUALLY. THE ZOOM PLATFORM ALLOWED US TO PROVIDE MONTHLY LEARNING TO SPEAK APHASIA TRAINING, AS WELL AS BIMONTHLY TAPTALKS ON RESOURCES SUCH AS MENTAL HEALTH, COPING, ENGAGEMENT AND RESEARCH FOR FAMILIES IMPACTED BY APHASIA. THE LEARNING TO SPEAK APHASIA TRAINING SAW UNEXPECTED BENEFITS IN THE VITURAL ARENA, ALLOWING US TO EDUCATE AND TRAIN FAMILY MEMBERS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND WORLD. THIS UNIVERSAL TRAINING IMPROVED THE CLIENT'S ABILITY TO MAINTAIN CONNECTION WITH HIS/HER PEERS, DISTANT FAMILY AND FRIENDS. PRIVATE FAMILY TRAININGS WERE ALSO INITIATED DUE TO NEED AND INTEREST.
COMMUNITY/AWARENESS SERVICES: WHILE 2021 HAD SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS WORKING REMOTELY, TAP UNLIMITED CONTINUED TO FOSTER AND CULTIVATE RELATIONSHIPS WITH AREA PROVIDERS, HOSPITALS AND UNIVERSITY PROGRAMS. WE ASSISTED GRADUATE SPEECH PATHOLOGY PROGRAMS IN OBTAINING TRAINING HOURS FOR THEIR STUDENTS, PARTICIPATED IN NATIONAL EDUCATIONAL EFFORTS AROUND APHASIA AND SUPPORTED OUR HEALTHCARE COLLEAGUES AS THEY ADDRESSED THE COMMUNICATIVE INEQUITIES OF THOSE WITH APHASIA, NOW OFTEN ALONE DUE TO COVID. AWARENESS PROGRAMS WERE OFFERED BIMONTHLY AS WELL AS ON DEMAND FOR COMMUNITY PROGRAMS.
