TO CHAMPION PUBLIC AWARENESS OF POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD) AND CHALLENGES CONFRONTING OUR COUNTRYS HEROES AND RALLY SUPPORT FOR SHELTER ANIMAL ADOPTION BY CONNECTING HEROES AND COMPANIONS.

MISSION: COMPANIONS FOR HEROES (C4H) PROVIDES COMPANION DOGS AND SERVICE DOGS OBTAINED FROM SHELTERS AND/OR RESCUES, WHO MIGHT OTHERWISE BE EUTHANIZED, FREE OF CHARGE TO ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY PERSONNEL AND THEIR CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS, AGES 2-18, MILITARY VETERANS, AND FIRST-RESPONDERS RECOVERING FROM THE PSYCHOLOGICAL CHALLENGES THEY SUFFERED DURING SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY. C4H INCREASES PUBLIC AWARENESS OF POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER (PTSD), TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI) AND OTHER CHALLENGES CONFRONTING OUR COUNTRYS HEROES; AND RALLYS SUPPORT FOR ANIMAL WELFARE AND THE ADOPTION OF SHELTER AND/OR RESCUE DOGS.PROGRAM SERVICE: DOGS ARE TRAINED AND CERTIFIED TO OBTAIN THE AMERICAN KENNEL CLUB CANINE GOOD CITIZEN CERTIFICATION; OR THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT OF 1990 (SERVICE DOGS ONLY). A CARE PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES A T-SHIRT, TOYS, ETC. ALL RECIPIENTS RECEIVE SIX (6) SCHEDULED FOLLOW-UP MEETINGS OVER THE FIRST YEAR OF THE DOG'S ADOPTION AND ENTRY IN THE PROGRAM. COORDINATED ADDITIONAL FOLLOW-ON TRAINING, INCLUDING PAYMENT FOR ADDITIONAL TRAINING, AND ARRANGING SERVICES AS REQUIRED. PROCESSING OF THE RECIPIENT'S REQUEST FOR A SERVICE DOG, TO INCLUDE IDENTIFICATION OF THE RECIPIENT'S NEEDS AND THE DETERMINATION OF THE APPROPRIATENESS OF THE REQUEST. EVALUATING SUITABILITY OF THE COMPANION DOG BASED ON THE TEMPERAMENT AND AGE TO BECOME A SERVICE DOG, AND ASSISTANCE WHENEVER THE RECIPIENT MAKES A REQUEST.
