TO ADDRESS JUVENILE CRIME, GRAFFITI AND GANG VIOLENCE IN THE HARLINGEN, TX AREA AND ESTABLISH PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE JUVENILES WITH ALTERNATIVE ACTIVITIES AFTER SCHOOL AND PROVIDE MENTORING AND EDUCATIONAL TOOLS TO HIGH RISK STUDENTS. PROVIDE SAFE ENVIROMENT FOR MIGRANT FAMILIES.

THE ORGANIZATION IS CURRENTLY WORKING WITH LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES TO REDUCE GANG ACTIVITIES THROUGH VARIOUS YOUTH PROGRAM INTERVENTIONS SUCH AS ESTABLISHING A TEEN YOUTH CENTER WHERE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED AND HIGH RISK YOUTHS CAN GO AFTER SCHOOL AND PARTICIPATE IN NUMEROUS ATHLETIC ACTIVITIES AS WELL AS EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES. THIS PROGRAM IS CURRENTLY UTILIZING ABOUT 25% OF THE PROGRAM EXPENSES. THE ORGANIZATION HAS ALSO PURCHASED COMPUTERS TO ALLOW ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED YOUTH TO ENHANCE THEIR EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITES (STUDY ROOMS). THE ORGANIZATION IS ALSO WORKING WITH JUVENILES SO THAT THEY MAY COMPLETE THEIR HIGH SCHOOL EDUCATION. WITH THE COLLABORATION OF THE HARLINGEN CISD AND THE CITY OF HARL. THE ORGANIZATION IS PROVIDING INTERVENTION COUNSELING TO 9TH GRADE STUDENTS TO PREVENT THEM FROM DROPPING OUT OF SCHOOL. THE ORGAINZATION IS PROVIDING SAFE HOUSING FOR MIGRANT FAMILIES SEEKING ASYLUM IN THE U.S. BY ESTABLISHING BUILDINGS TO LEASE.
IT ALSO PROVIDES RECREATIONAL AREA AND HOUSING AREA (60 ACRES) FOR CHILDREN OF UNDOCUMENTED INDIVIDUALS AS WELL AS PROVIDE THESE CHILDREN WITH COMPUTERS AND OTHER LEARNING TOOLS WHILE IN DETENTION BY THE IMMIGRATION NATURALIZATION SERVICES AGENCY (US HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES). THE BUILDING WAS PURCHASED FROM TEEN CHALLENGE OF TEXAS AND IS LEASED TO BCFS HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES A U.S. GOVERNMENTAL AGENCY.
