DEWEY HEIGHTS AND TURTLE CREEK TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM: GSH PROVIDES SAFE AND SPPORTIVE HOUSING THAT TRANSFORMS THE LIVES OF HOMELESS YOUTH THROUGH ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION, LIFE SKILLS TRAINING, AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. GSH CURRENTLY OPERATES TWO RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS FOR YOUG MEN WHO ARE HOMELESS AND/OR AGING-OUT OF THE CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM. TURTLE CREEK, A 5 BED TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM, SERVES YOUNG MEN 16-21, IN CHESTERFIELD, NJ. DEWWY HEIGHTS, A TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM IN HIGHLAND PARK, NJ, PROVIDES SUPPORTIVE HOUSING FOR 5 OLDER YOUTH 18-21.
THE HOMELESSNESS DIVERSION PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO QUICKLY HELP HOMELESS AND AT-RISK HOUSEHOLDS IDENTIFY IMMEDIATE HOUSING NEEDS AND CONNECTS THEM WITH NECESSARY SERVICES TO PREVENT HOMELESSNESS. GSH COLLABORATED WITH THE NJ DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY AFFAIRS (DCA) FOR THEIR COMPREHENSIVE EVICTION PREVENTION (CEP) PROGRAM. GSH PROVIDED EVICTION PREVENTION SERVICES BY ENROLLING ELIGIBLE HOUSEHOLDS INTO THE STATE RENTAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM AND FACILITATIING THE COMPLETION OF EVICITON PRECENTION SELF-CERTIFICATION FORMS.
THE BRIDGES PROGRAM HAS ENABLED GSH TO WORK CLOSELY WITH APPROXIMATELY 50 AGING OUT AND OUT-OF-SCHOOL YOUTH ANNUALLY. GSH'S DEDICATED CASE WORKERS HAVE PROVIDED CRUCIAL SUPPORT, ASSISTING YOUNG INDIVIDUALS IN OBTAINING THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMAS, ENROLLING IN HIGHER EDUCATION INSITUTIONS, AND EQUIPPING THEM WITH WORKFORCE READINESS SKILLS. THE PROGRAM HAS ALSO FOSTERED STRONG RELATIONSHIPS WITH EMPLOYERS WHO SHARE THE GSH MISSION, OFFERING MEANINGFUL PAID EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AND PROVIDING SUPPORT IN THE FORM OF FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, TRANSPORTATION, YOUTH STIPENDS, CLOTHING AND TUITION/SCHOLARSHIPS.
THE GOAL OF THE STREET OUTREACH PROGRAM IS TO ENGAGE HOMELESS HOUSEHOLDS AND THOSE AT RISK AND LINK THEM TO SUPPORTIVE HOUSING SERVICES IN MONMOUTH COUNTY. ADDITIONALLY, GSH STAFF PROVIDE DIRECT ASSISTANCE TO CLIENTS IN THE FORM OF FOOD, CLOTHING, TRANSPORTATION, PERSONAL HYGIENE PRODUCTS AND OTHER IMMEDIATE NEEDS.
