DEWEY HEIGHTS AND TURTLE CREEK TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM: GSH PROVIDES SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE HOUSING THAT TRANSFORMS THE LIVES OF HOMELESS YOUTH THROUGH ACCESS TO HIGHER EDUCATION, LIFE SKILLS TRAINING, AND EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. GSH CURRENTLY OPERATES TWO RESIDENTIAL PROGRAMS FOR YOUNG MEN WHO ARE HOMELESS AND/OR AGING-OUT OF THE CHILD WELFARE SYSTEM. TURTLE CREEK, OUR 5 BED TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM, SERVES YOUNG MEN 16 - 21, IN CHESTERFIELD, NJ. DEWEY HEIGHTS, OUR TRANSITIONAL LIVING PROGRAM IN HIGHLAND PARK, NJ, PROVIDES SUPPORTIVE HOUSING FOR 5 OLDER YOUTH 18 - 21, IN HIGHLAND PARK, NJ.
BRIDGES: IN APRIL 2020 GSH WAS AWARDED A GRANT WITH THE NJ DEPARTMENT OF LABOR (DOL) TO PILOT THE BRIDGES TO EMPLOYING YOUTH PROGRAM. THROUGH THIS INITIATIVE, WHICH COMMENCED AT THE ONSET OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, GSH DEMONSTRATED ITS ABILITY TO SUCCESSFULLY DESIGN AND IMPLEMENT A NEW PROGRAM, EXECUTE AN OUTREACH CAMPAIGN, AND ENGAGE CLIENT PARTICIPATION - UNDER A TIGHT TIMELINE AND DURING STATE-WIDE LOCKDOWN. OUR TEAM CONTINUED TO WORK IN PERSON WITH OUR BRIDGES ENROLLEES THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC. GSH WAS THE ONLY GRANTEE TO MEET AND EXCEED THE PROGRAM OBJECTIVES ESTABLISHED BY THE DOL, ENROLLING 120% OF CONTRACTED UNDUPLICATED CLIENTS (18 - 24) INTO THE BRIDGES PROGRAM.
PARK PLACE: IN JANUARY 2021 GSH CREATED A NEW PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING PROGRAM IN HIGHLAND PARK FOR LOW INCOME HOUSEHOLDS AND HOMELESS YOUTH 18 - 24. THROUGH THE HOUSING FIRST CAPITAL FUND, THROUGH THE MIDDLESEX COUNTY DIVISION OF HOUSING, GSH PURCHASED AND TRANSFORMED A MULTI-FAMILY HOME INTO 6-UNITS OF PERMANENT SUPPORTIVE HOUSING. THE PROJECT, PARK PLACE, HAS BEEN FULLY OPERATIONAL PROVIDING SUBSIDIZED RENTAL UNITS FOR YOUTH WHO WOULD OTHERWISE BE HOMELESS. THE ADMINISTRATIVE TEAM CONTINUES TO PURSUE SOLUTIONS TO END HOMELESNESS IN OUR COMMUNITY.
