FARMERS MARKETS: WE OPERATE TWO FARMERS MARKETS IN HILLSBORO, OREGON EACH WEEKEND FROM SPRING UNTIL FALL. WE PROVIDE ACTIVE VENUES AND MARKET SUPPORT TO HUNDREDS OF LOCAL FARMERS, ARTISANS AND OTHER VENDORS TO SELL PRODUCE AND PRODUCTS. OUR MARKETS ATTRACT AN AVERAGE OF 7,000 SHOPPERS EACH WEEK, BOOSTING THE LOCAL ECONOMY WHILE PROVIDING RESIDENTS OF USDA LOW-INCOME AND LOW-ACCESS AREAS WITH ACCESS TO FRESH FOODS. OUR MARKETS ALSO PROVIDE LOCAL NONPROFITS, ARTISTS AND EDUCATIONAL AND CIVIC ORGANIZATIONS DYNAMIC SPACES FOR INTERACTING WITH, EDUCATING AND SUPPORTING DIVERSE MEMBERS OF THE HILLSBORO COMMUNITY IN AN EQUITABLE, INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE MANNER.
FOOD ACCESS PROGRAMS: OUR SNAP MATCH PROGRAM (UTILIZING TOKENS SPENT AT OUR FARMERS MARKETS) PROVIDED IMPORTANT NUTRITION SUPPORT TO FOOD-INSECURE POPULATIONS IN OUR COMMUNITY. LAST YEAR SNAP MATCH PROGRAM WAS AWARDED $13,037 IN DOUBLE UP FOOD BUCKS, $2,000 SPONSOR DONATIONS, AND $2,000 IN FUNDING FROM THE TUALATIN SOIL & WATER CONSERVATION DISTRICT. OUR VETERANS SNAP MATCH PROGRAM, SPONSORED BY LOCAL BUSINESSES, MADE AN IMPORTANT DIFFERENCE IN THE LIVES OF HILLSBOROS MILITARY VETERANS BY INCREASING THEIR ABILITY TO PURCHASE HEALTHY, LOCAL FOOD.
MARKET SPROUTS (KIDS PROGRAM): THIS PROGRAM PROVIDES CHILDREN WITH HANDS-ON, INTERACTIVE ACTIVITIES FOCUSED ON STRENGTHENING CONNECTIONS TO HEALTHY EATING AND LOCAL FOOD SYSTEMS. ACTIVITIES INCLUDED SALAD MAKING, RAINBOW FOOD SCAVENGER HUNTS, AND SEED IDENTIFICATION, AMONG MANY OTHERS. CHILDREN UNDER THREE YEARS OLD ENGAGED WITH AGRICULTURE THEMED SENSORY BINS.
