WE BELIEVE IN THE HUMAN-ANIMAL BOND AND EXIST TO SUPPORT CENTRAL MN BY PRACTICING AND PROMOTING QUALITY ADOPTION SERVICES AND HUMANE EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

SHELTER PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS - OUR GOAL IS TO CONTINUALLY IMPROVE OPERATIONS AT THE SHELTER AND PROVIDE EFFECTIVE SERVICES TO THE PEOPLE AND ANIMALS WE SERVE. WE HAVE DONE A GREAT DEAL TO MOVE FORWARD WITH THIS. IN ADDITION TO OUR SHELTER VETERINARIANS, 5 VETERINARIANS VOLUNTEERED THEIR SERVICES, DOING SURGERIES AND CONSULTING ON QUESTIONABLE ANIMALS. SURGERY RECAP FOR 2022: 3,448 SPAY AND NEUTER SURGERIES, 48 HERNIA REPAIRS, 47 DENTALS, 9 TAIL AMPUTATIONS, 3 EYE REMOVALS 1 FRACTURE REPAIR, 4 SUTURE REPAIRS, 6 ENTROPIAN EYELID REPAIRS, 4 BLADDER STONE REMOVAL, 5 LEG AMPUTATIONS, 5 TOE AMPUTATIONS, 1 SPLENECTOMY, 3 MASS REMOVALS, 15 GENERAL SOFT TISSUE, 3 EXPLORATORY. TOTAL INTAKES FOR 2022 WAS 5,302. TOTAL ADOPTIONS FOR 2022 WAS 5,207, A PLACEMENT RATE OF 95.0%. WE HAVE A GOAL OF NO EUTHANASIA OF TREATABLE REHABILITATABLE ANIMALS AND CONTINUE WITH OUR EFFORT TO KEEP OUR EUTHANASIA RATE. OUR FOSTER CARE PROGRAM IS CRITICAL TO OUR LIFE SAVING EFFORTS. FOSTER HOMES FILL THE GAP BETWEEN THE TIME AN ANIMAL IS BROUGHT TO THE SOCIETY AND THE TIME THEY ARE ADOPTED. 1,196 ANIMALS WENT THROUGH OUR FOSTER CARE PROGRAM IN 2022.


EDUCATION - IN AN EFFORT TO INCREASE THE COMMUNITY'S AWARENESS OF ANIMAL WELFARE AND HUMANE EDUCATION, TCHS HAS REACHED OUT IN A VARIETY OF WAYS: VISIT SENIOR CARE CENTER/ASSISTED LIVING FACILITIES. KEEP THE COMMUNITY UP-TO-DATE ON ANIMAL WELFARE RELATED NEWS AND LEGISLATION AWARENESS VIA NEWSLETTERS, FACEBOOK AND EMAILS. VISIT AREA SCHOOLS, INSTRUCTING CHILDREN HOW TO BE KIND TO ANIMALS AS WELL AS SAFE AROUND THEM. TCHS IS A RESOURCE IN OUR COMMUNITY FOR PEOPLE WITH QUESTIONS ABOUT ANYTHING ANIMAL RELATED. WE ANSWER NUMEROUS PHONE CALLS DAILY, HELPING PEOPLE RESOLVE WHATEVER PROBLEMS THEY ARE HAVING WITH AN ANIMAL. MEMBER OF NEWCOMERS, A WELCOME WAGON TYPE BUSINESS. THROUGH THEM WE DISTRIBUTE FLYERS TO PEOPLE MOVING IN THE AREA OR PURCHASING A NEW HOME.
