THE FAIR HOUSING CENTER IS A CIVIL RIGHTS AGENCY THAT PROMOTES HOUSING CHOICE, THE PROTECTION AND EXPANSION OF FAIR HOUSING RIGHTS AND THE RESOLUTION OF LANDLORD TENANT DISPUTES THROUGH MEDIATION.

ENFORCEMENT: INVESTIGATION OF COMPLAINTS OF HOUSING DISCRIMINTATION THAT ALLEGE VIOLATIONS OF LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL FAIR HOUSING LAWS AND THE INVESTIGATION OF BUSINESS PRACTICES AND POLICIES OF HOUSING AND HOUSING RELATED INDUSTRIES FOR SYSTEMIC VIOLATIONS. DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, WE RECEIVED AND INVESTIGATED 118 NEW COMPLAINTS ALLEGING DISCRIMINATION. THE CENTER ASSISTED 4,770 INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES BY ADDRESSING HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS AND MODIFICATIONS. OUR SERVICES AND PROGRAMS IMPACTED 303,249 PEOPLE.


EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT: THE CENTER'S EDUCATION AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM INCLUDED 69 TRAININGS; APPROXIMATELY 15,683 PEOPLE RECEIVED TRAINING. THROUGH THESE TRAININGS AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES, THE GENERAL PUBLIC AND HOUSING INDUSTRY PROFESSIONALS ARE INFORMED ABOUT THEIR FAIR HOUSING RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES UNDER THE LAW. THE CENTER DISTRIBUTED 24,340 EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS AND OUR CENTER'S ADVERTISING EFFORTS REALIZED 26,749,197 IMPRESSIONS.


SERVICES TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS WITH LANDLORD-TENANT DISPUTES: THE FAIR HOUSING CENTER'S LANDLORD-TENANT PROGRAM IS A FREE SERVICE TO LUCAS COUNTY RENTERS THAT ARE CHALLENGED BY LANDLORD-TENANT DISPUTES. PRIMARILY THIS PROGRAM WORKS TO PROVIDE EACH PARTY WITH EDUCATION ON THEIR HOUSING RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES. IT ALSO TAKES FURTHER ACTION SUCH AS MEDIATION, AND ASSISTANCE WITH ENFORCEMENT OF LEGAL RIGHTS.
