THE COUNCIL/RETIRED AND SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM IS A NON-PROFIT, NON- POLITICAL ORGANIZATION THAT COORDINATES PROGRAMS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE, TO PROMOTE AND SAFEGUARD THE INDPENDENCE AND WELL-BEING OF SENIOR CITIZENS IN THE STATE OF MICHIGAN COUNITES MECOSTA, OSCEOLA, AND LAKE.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

THE RETIRED SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM ENABLES SENIOR CITIZENS 55 AND OLDER THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMUNITY ACTIVITIES WHILE SERVING THEIR NEIGBORS, AGENCIES, AND ORGANIZATIONS WITHIN MECOSTA, OSCEOLA, AND LAKE COUNTIES. THERE IS AN INFORMATIONAL NEWSLETTER MAILING TWICE A YEAR THAT IS A SPECIAL INVITATION. ASSIGNMENTS TO THE VOLUNTEERS ARE COORDINATED AND ASSINGED WITHIN A RADIUS OF 30 MILES FROM THEIR RESIDENCE ASIDE FROM MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION. MEDICAL EMERGENCY TRANSPORTATION, FOOD PANTRIES, KITCHENS, MEDICINE DELIVERES WERE HIGHLY ACTIVE AND NEEDS WERE MET BY THE RSVP VOLUNTEERS. VOLUNTEERS ASSIST WITH GATHERING AND DELIVERING MEALS, DISASTER PREPAREDNESS, MENTORING, LITERACY, HOSPICE CARE, NURSING HOMES, HOMELESS SHELTERS, PET THEREPY, AND MANY MORE TASKS TO HELP THOSE IN NEED. RSVP PARTNERS WITH THE MMAP, SENIOR MEDICATE PROGRAM, AND AARP VOLUNTEERS TO PREPARE LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS TAX RETURNS.
