THE DES MOINES COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY PROVIDES SHELTER AND RESCUE OPERATIONS FOR ANIMALS IN DES MOINES COUNTY, SECURES PERMANENT, LOVING HOMES FOR ABANDONED, ABUSED, OR NEGLECTED ANIMALS, AND TEACHES RESPONSIBLE PET OWNERSHIP AND COMPASSION FOR ALL LIVING THINGS.

THE DES MOINES COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY OPERATED THE BURLINGTON ANIMAL SHELTER. DURING 2018, 1,122 ANIMALS RECEIVED SHELTER SERVICES AND 408 ANIMALS WERE ADOPTED. THE SHELTER REUNITED 297 LOST PETS WITH THEIR OWNERS. IT PARTICIPATED IN 7 COMMUNITY EVENTS, INCLUDING SANTA PAWS, CYN-A-PALOOZA, THE WEST BURLINGTON DOG PADDLE, MUSIC TRIVIA NIGHT, CUBS/CARDINALS RAFFLE, BARK IN THE PARK AND THE HOLIDAY LIGHTED PARADE. THE DES MOINES COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY VOLUNTEERS BRING ANIMALS INTO THE COMMUNITY TO SPECIAL EVENTS, INCLUDING NURSING HOMES, SCHOOLS, AND CHURCH GROUPS.
