Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
HISTORIC BOULDER PRODUCED OUR SIGNATURE EDUCATIONAL EVENTS IN NEW AND DIFFERENT WAYS AS WE EMERGED FROM THE PANDEMIC. WE HELD A GHOST WALK IN GOLD HILL AS A DAY-LONG INTERACTIVE TOUR OF THE GOLD HILL HISTORIC DISTRICT, INCLUDING THE INN, THE BLUEBIRD LODGE, THE SCHOOL, A HOME AND THE MUSEUM, ALONG WITH VOLUNTEER ACTORS PORTRAYING SOME OF THE EARLY PIONEER RESIDENTS OF THE GOLD HILL CEMETERY. OUR TRADITIONAL HOLIDAY TOUR WAS MODIFIED AS AN IN-DEPTH TOUR OF OUR FIRST AND MOST RECENTLY SAVED BUILDINGS: THE HIGHLAND CITY CLUB AND THE HANNAH BARKER HOUSE. OUR MEMBERSHIP PARTY WAS HELD IN A MAPLETON HILL GARDEN WITH A PROGRAM ON THE FIRST BLACK WOMAN GRADUATE OF CU WHO BOARDED NEARBY.
HISTORIC BOULDER PRESENTED VIRTUAL PROGRAMS INCLUDING THE HOMES OF EARLY BLACK CITIZENS OF BOULDER (ALSO BEING DEVELOPED AS A VIRTUAL TOUR) AND FORT CHAMBERS EXAMINING BOULDERS INVOLVEMENT IN THE SAND CREEK MASSACRE. OUR FARMHOUSES PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTED THE PRESERVATION OF MODEST HOMES OF BOULDER'S PIONEER FARM FAMILIES. MODERN ARCHITECTURE SHAPES THE PROGRESSIVE SPIRIT OF BOULDER FOCUSED ON THE MID-CENTURY BUILDINGS WHOSE ARCHITECTURE INFORMS OUR LOCAL CULTURE. OUR SECONDARY SCHOOL ESSAY CONTEST ENGAGED YOUTH IN THE TIMELY TOPIC OF RENAMING HISTORIC PLACES IN LIGHT OF DIVERSE AND INCLUSIVE PERSPECTIVES. WE HELD FOUR HISTORY HIKES INTO THE FOOTHILLS TO SEE LITTLE KNOWN HISTORICAL STRUCTURES ON MOUNT SANITAS AND ABOVE CHAUTAUQUA.
HISTORIC BOULDER REINVIGORATED OUR PRESERVATION ADVOCACY PROGRAM WITH A FOCUS ON BOULDERS PARKS AND MID-CENTURY MODERN ARCHITECTURE. WE PRESENTED A LECTURE ON THE HISTORY OF THE BOULDER BANDSHELL PRECEDING A MUSICAL (AND HISTORICAL) PERFORMANCE BY PARTNER LOCAL THEATER COMPANY AT THE BANDSHELL. WE DEFENDED OUR APPLICATION FOR LANDMARKING OF THE MODERNIST ATRIUM BUILDING WHICH RECEIVED UNANIMOUS SUPPORT FROM THE CITY LANDMARKS BOARD. REPRESENTATIVES OF HISTORIC BOULDER ENGAGED IN THE CITYS HISTORIC PLACES PLANNING PROCESS TO DEVELOP A PLAN FOR THE 12 HISTORIC PROPERTIES MANAGED BY THE PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT. HISTORIC BOULDER ADVOCATED FOR A BOUNDRY EXTENSION OF THE LANDMARKED CENTRAL PARK. OUR PARTNERSHIP CONTINUED ON RESTORATION OF THE BOULDER THEATER.
