CONSERVING AND ENHANCING THE LANDS AND WATERS OF NORTHCENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA TO SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENTAL WELL-BEING AND RECREATIONAL NEEDS OF LOCAL COMMUNITIES.

TRAINED NEW STAFF TO CONDUCT CONSERVATION EASEMENT SITE VISITS AND CONDUCTED ALL SITE VISITS FOR YEARLY MONITORING TO ALL EXISTING CONSERVATION EASEMENTS. WORKING WITH A VOLUNTEER, NPC HAS BEEN PRODUCING A NEAR WEEKLY BLOG ABOUT PLANTS, SHRUBS, AND TREES IN THE REGION. THE BLOG, UNDERFOOT BY SUSAN SPROUT, IS SHARED ON NPC'S WEBSITE AND IN SOCIAL MEDIA.NPC IS WORKING WITH TIOGA COUNTY ON AN ACQUISITION ALONG THE PLANNED ROUTE OF THE MARSH CREEK GREENWAY. THE PROPERTY WAS ACQUIRED BY TIOGA COUNTY WITH NPC FUNDING. THE PROPERTY WILL BE DEVELOPED INTO A POCKET PARK ALONG THE GREENWAY.IMPROVED AQUATAIC HABITAT AND PHYSICAL ACCESS TO A "KIDS ONLY" SECTION OF BUFFALO CREEK IN UNION COUNTY.NPC'S STAFF CONTINUED TO COORDINATE THE NORTHCENTRAL STREAM PARTNERSHIP. THE GROUP WORKED ON WATER QUALITY IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS. IN 2021 THE PROJECTS IMPACTED OVER 12,000 FEET OF STREAM. BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IMPLEMENTED INCLUDED STREAMBANK FENCING, STABILIZED CROSSINGS, RIPARIAN BUFFERS, AND IN-STREAM STRUCTURES TO STABILIZE ERODING STREAMBANKS. WITH THE PENNSYLVANIA GAME COMMISSION AND THE U.S. ARMY RESERVES, NPC COORDINATED RESTORATION OF THE CONNECTIVITY BETWEEN PLUNKETTS CREEK AND ITS FLOODPLAIN. PLUNKETTS CREEK IS A HIGH QUALITY COLD-WATER FISHERY AND A TRIBUTARY TO LOYALSOCK CREEK. THE WORK ALSO IMPROVED A DIRT ROAD THAT WAS SENDING SEDIMENT TO ANOTHER TROUT STREAM, HUCKLE RUN. THE ORGANIZATION PARTICIPATED IN SEVERAL COMMUNITY EVENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMS FOR SCHOOL AGE KIDS AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC.
