HOME MEAL DELIVERIES:THE MAJOR MISSION OF PASCACK VALLEY MEALS ON WHEELS (DBA AS MEALS ON WHEELS NORTH JERSEY) IS TO PROVIDE TWO MEALS A DAY (A HOT MEAL AND A COLD MEAL) 5 DAYS A WEEK TO ELIGIBLE HOMEBOUND INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE UNABLE TO COOK OR SHOP FOR THEMSELVES DUE TO AGE OR DISABILITY. IN 2021, 65,000 MEALS WERE DELIVERED TO 400 RECIPIENTS. THE MEALS ARE PREPARED BY INDEPENDENT CATERERS IN THEIR FULL SERVICE KITCHENS WHICH ARE INSPECTED REGULARLY BY LOCAL AND STATE HEALTH INSPECTORS. MEALS WERE DELIVERED BY UNPAID VOLUNTEERS. THE COST OF FOOD ALONE WAS $226,000 IN 2021. RECIPIENTS WERE ASKED TO MAKE A MONTHLY CONTRIBUTION TO OFFSET THE COST OF FOOD AND OVERHEAD BASED ON THEIR ABILITY TO PAY. SUBSIDIES AND DISCOUNTS ARE GIVEN UPON REQUEST. NO RECIPIENT IS DENIED A MEAL BECAUSE OF INABILITY TO PAY, SUBJECT TO THE AVAILABILITY OF FUNDING AND SUBJECT TO A WAITING LIST TO JOIN THE PROGRAM IF FUNDING IS NOT AVAILABLE. GRANTS FROM BERGEN COUNTY SOCIAL SERVICES HELP OFFSET THE COST OF FOOD AND SUBSIDIES.
WESTWOOD FOR ALL AGES:PASCACK VALLEY MEALS ON WHEELS ACTS AS FIDUCIARY AGENT FOR THE WESTWOOD FOR ALL AGES INITIATIVE. THIS PROGRAM WAS CREATED THROUGH A GRANT PROVIDED BY THE HENRY & MARILYN TAUB FOUNDATION. THE INITIATIVE IS A PARTNERSHIP OF PASCACK VALLEY MEALS ON WHEELS (DBA AS MEALS ON WHEELS NORTH JERSEY), THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL OF WESTWOOD, MUNICIPAL DEPARTMENTS AND LOCAL BUSINESS AND HEALTH SERVICE PROVIDERS. WESTWOOD FOR ALL AGES IS COMMITTED TO RAISING THE COMMUNITY'S AWARENESS OF ITS SENIOR RESIDENTS, ENSURING THAT THEIR VOICES ARE HEARD AND THEIR ONGOING CONTRIBUTIONS ARE RECOGNIZED. THE WESTWOOD MAYOR AND COUNCIL HAVE TAKEN THE STEP OF FORMING A SENIOR'S COMMITTEE THAT WILL PROVIDE INSIGHTS INTO HOW THE BOROUGH'S ACTIVITIES IMPACT IT'S SENIORS.
