DEVELOPMENT OF A FUNCTIONAL EMR SYSTEM. CURRENTLY MEDICAL RECORD SYSTEMS ARE DESIGNED FOR PRIMARILY NON-MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDERS AND CLINICS. IN ADDITION, MAJOR ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORD COMPANIES ARE FOR-PROFIT ENDEAVORS, MORE CONCERNED WITH RECOVERING BILLING THAN IN QUALITY PATIENT CARE AND OUTCOME TRACKING. PHYSICIAN DISSATISFACTION WITH MEDICAL RECORD SYSTEMS IS EXTREMELY HIGH, WITH MANY PHYSICIANS PREFERRING TO HANDWRITTEN NOTES OVER NEXT TECHNOLOGY-BASED SYSTEMS. BACA IS DEVELOPING A MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC SPECIFIC MEDICAL RECORD SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR EASE OF USE, QUALITY ASSESSMENT, AND RIGOROUS CONTROL OF PROPER, SCIENTIFIC CARE FOR PATIENTS; TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THE UNIQUE ROLE THAT TECHNOLOGY CAN PLAY IN TREATING MENTAL ILLNESS.
