NECC S 2021 COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM HAS THREE COMPONENTS 1 - NECC PROVIDES FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR LOW INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN ORDER TO ENSURE THAT ALL COMMUNITY MEMBERS HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES, WITHOUT REGARD TO ABILITY TO PAY. IN 2021, THE NECC PROVIDED 35,860 IN DIRECT ASSISTANCE. 2 - NECC PARTNERS WITH OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS TO ENHANCE SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES FOR BOTH ORGANIZATIONS. 3 - NECC PROVIDES SPACE FOR OTHER NON-PROFIT AND COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS, LEVERAGING THE UTILITY OF THE NECCS UNIQUE FACILITY. DURING 2021, THE NECC PARTICIPATED IN PORTLANDS SAFE STREETS HEALTHY BUSINESS PROGRAM AND CONVERTED A PORTION OF OUR PARKING LOT TO PROVIDE OPEN-AIR CLASSES, ACTIVITIES, AND LARGE MEETING SPACES FOR OTHER NON-PROFITS, ORGANIZATIONS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS AT NO COST.
THE NECC FEATURES A YEAR-ROUND INDOOR WARM WATER POOL MAINTAINED AT A TEMPERATURE COMFORTABLE FOR CHILDREN, SENIORS, AND PARTICIPANTS WITH MOBILITY CHALLENGES. THE NECC WAS CLOSED DURING THE FIRST TWO MONTHS OF 2021 PURSUANT TO STATEWIDE MANDATE RELATED TO COVID-19 PROTECTIONS. UPON REOPENING, THE NECC OFFERED SWIM LESSONS FOR ALL AGES, FOLLOWING THE RED CROSS CURRICULUM WITH THE GOAL OF REDUCING INCIDENTS OF DROWNING. DURING THE SAME PERIOD THE NECC OFFERED ADULT LAP SWIM AND EXERCISE CLASSES, INCLUDING WATER FITNESS, ARTHRITIS EXERCISE, SENIOR EXERCISE AND DEEPWATER WORKOUT.
THE NECC OFFERS A VARIETY OF SPORTS, ART, DANCE AND ENRICHMENT CLASSES FOR YOUTH. IN 2021, THE NECC WAS CERTIFIED AS AN EMERGENCY CHILD CARE CENTER, PROVIDING CRITICAL OUT OF SCHOOL CARE FOR CHILDREN WHILE LOCAL SCHOOLS REMAINED CLOSED. THE NECC PROVIDED 10 WEEKS OF SUMMER DAY CAMP, INCORPORATING ALL COVID PROTOCOLS.
