Part 3 - Line 1

THE EQUAL JUSTICE SOCIETY IS TRANSFORMING THE NATION'S CONSCIOUSNESS ON RACE THROUGH LAW, SOCIAL SCIENCE, AND THE ARTS.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

LAW AND POLICY: CHALLENGING OBSTACLES TO EQUAL OPPORTUNITY IN LAW AND POLICY. WE CONTINUE TO ARTICULATE HOW IMPLICIT BIAS AND STRUCTURAL RACISM OPERATE IN OUR SOCIETY AND WHY THE "INTENT DOCTRINE" SERVES AS AN OBSTACLE TO RACIAL JUSTICE. WE CONTINUED TO TRAIN JUDGES AND LAWYERS IN CUTTING EDGE THEORIES OF DISCRIMINATION LAW BY CONVENING SOCIAL SCIENTISTS AND LEGAL SCHOLARS IN WORKSHOPS.OVER THE YEARS, WE DEFENDED EQUAL OPPORTUNITY PROGRAMS IN PUBLIC INSTITUTIONS FILING AMICUS BRIEFS OR INTERVENING DIRECTLY IN CURRENT LITIGATION.

COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY: HEIGHTENING RACIAL CONSCIOUSNESS IN THE MEDIA AND PUBLIC DISCOURSE. WE ORGANIZED AND FACILITATED A NUMBER OF PRESENTATIONS TO ADVANCE A NATIONAL, PROACTIVE AGENDA FOR EQUAL OPPORTUNITY. OUR PRESIDENT, EVA PATERSON, CONTINUED TO BE IN DEMAND AS BOTH A SPEAKER AND PANELIST AT NATIONAL CONVENINGS OF LEGAL AND OTHER ORGANIZATIONS.
