SHOWCASE UPSTATE NY INNOVATIONS - PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE DOCUMENT (ORAL HISTORY, ARCHIVES, ARTIFACTS), RENOVATION OF ICE-CREAM FACTORY AS TECHWORKS!, AND TESTING OF VISITORS EXPERIENCES AND PROGRAMS.

COLLECTION MANAGEMENT - RESTORATION AND ACQUISITION OF ARTIFACTS FROM CENTRAL NYS INDUSTRIES WERE LIMITED DURING NYS ON PAUSE CLOSURES OF NON-ESSENTIAL ENTITIES. IBM AND LINK VOLUNTEER RESTORATION WORK SESSIONS WERE CURTAILED BEGINNING IN MARCH. TECHNOLOGY ARTIFACTS WERE DONATED BY IBM VETERANS ALAN JONES, WILL TRACZ, ESTATE OF GE-AVIONICS ENGINEER BILL QUINLIVAN, AND INVENTOR TOM AMENDOLA. THE KILST FAMILY DONATED A WORKING PLAYER PIANO, ALONG WITH PIANO ROLL COLLECTION, AS DID TOM ULRICH. BINGHAMTON UNIVERSITY (BU) COMMUNITY SERVICE TEAMS WORKED REMOTELY ON ARTIFACT INVENTORY DATABASES AND UPGRADES OF WEBSITE/SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENTATIONS.


OUTREACH/EVENTS - PRE-PANDEMIC EVENTS: THE CENTER HOSTED A GLOBAL GAME JAM SITE IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SUNY BROOME COMMUNITY COLLEGE, JAN 2020, AND A DAY LONG BABY IT'S CODE INSIDE EVENT AT TECHWORKS!, FEB 2020, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH AAUW, GIRL SCOUTS - NYPENN PATHWAYS, HACK BU, SWE, AND WOMEN IN TECHNOLOGY AT BU. OUTREACH: IN SPRING 2020 SEMESTER, THE CENTER WORKED WITH THREE BU STUDENT TEAMS FOR ACADEMIC CREDIT ON A HYBRID IN PERSON/REMOTE BASIS - WATSON SCHOOL - TECHWORKS! ROOFTOP SCULPTURE FEASIBILITY STUDY; SCHOOL OF MANAGEMENT - REWIRE STROKE REHAB PARTNERSHIP PROPOSAL WITH RYAN REHAB CENTER, CHICAGO; AND SATURN V INSTRUMENT UNIT 3D DISPLAY FEASIBILITY STUDY. IN FALL 2020 SEMESTER, A TEAM OF WATSON SCHOOL SENIORS BEGAN A YEAR-LONG PLAN FOR REASSEMBLY OF THE LUNAR MODULE SIMULATOR, ON LONG-TERM LOAN FROM THE SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION.


TECHWORKS! DEVELOPMENT - IN PREPARATION FOR REPLACEMENT OF TECHWORKS! CENTRAL BLOCK ROOF, BU STUDENT VOLUNTEER TEAMS MOVED COLLECTION ITEMS AND SHELVING TO SECOND FLOOR WHEN UNIVERSITY COVID PROTOCOLS PERMITTED OFF-CAMPUS COMMUNITY SERVICE, JAN-FEB AND FALL 2020. WHEN PERMITTED, BU STUDENT TEAMS ASSISTED WITH REPAIRS AND REMOVAL OF DECAYED GARDEN AND BUILDING FEATURES. SERVICES OF PROJECT ENGINEER AND ARCHITECT WERE ENGAGED TO MOVE FORWARD CITY REVIEW AND APPROVAL.
