Part 3 - Line 1
THE USS CONSTITUTION MUSEUM SERVES AS THE MEMORY AND EDUCATIONAL VOICE OF USS CONSTITUTION.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
EDUCATION/VISITATION - THE USS CONSTITUTION MUSEUM REOPENED TO THE PUBLIC ON APRIL 8, 2021 FOLLOWING A CLOSURE DUE TO COVID-19. THE MUSEUM HAS BEEN OPEN 7 DAYS PER WEEK SINCE MEMORIAL DAY AND WELCOMED 176,882 VISITORS DURING THE FISCAL YEAR. WHILE THE MUSEUM REOPENED TO THE PUBLIC, WE CONTINUED TO SHARE CONSTITUTION'S STORY WITH A NATIONAL AUDIENCE THROUGH A VARIETY OF ONLINE ACTIVITIES, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS. IN MAY 2021, THE MUSEUM WAS NAMED THE 5TH BEST HISTORY MUSEUM IN THE COUNTRY BY USA TODAY.
EXHIBITS - THE MUSEUM'S PARTICIPATORY EXHIBITS CONSISTENTLY RECEIVE HIGH MARKS FROM OUR GUESTS. "ALL HANDS ON DECK" IS AN AWARD-WINNING, HANDS-ON EXHIBIT ABOUT "OLD IRONSIDES'" 1812 CREW. "FOREST TO FRIGATE" COMBINES HISTORY AND STEM LEARNING TO EXPLORE THE SHIP'S DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION. "OLD IRONSIDES IN WAR IN PEACE" TRACES CONSTITUTION'S 224 YEAR HISTORY, WHILE THE "1812 DISCOVERY CENTER" EXPLORES THE CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF THE WAR OF 1812. "HEAR MY STORY: TODAY'S CREW OF USS CONSTITUTION" ENABLES VISITORS TO MEET THE ACTIVE-DUTY CREW OF "OLD IRONSIDES" THROUGH VIDEO INTERVIEWS AND VIBRANT PHOTOGRAPHS. "JOIN THE CREW" IS AN ONLINE VERSION OF THE "ALL HANDS ON DECK" EXHIBIT.
COLLECTIONS - THE MUSEUM HOUSES THE LARGEST COLLECTION OF USS CONSTITUTION-RELATED OBJECTS WITH NEARLY 2,000 ARTIFACTS AND OVER 10,000 ARCHIVAL MATERIALS. A 2,400 VOLUME LIBRARY IS AVAILABLE TO RESEARCHERS, STUDENTS AND THE PUBLIC BY APPOINTMENT. IN FY22, THE MUSEUM ACQUIRED 338 NEW ARTIFACTS AND ARCHIVAL RECORDS THROUGH DONATIONS AND PURCHASES. THE SCOPE AND BREADTH OF THESE NEW ACQUISITIONS CONTRIBUTES TO THE MUSEUM'S COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTION OF MATERIAL RELATED TO "OLD IRONSIDES." THE MUSEUM IS A CONSCIENTIOUS STEWARD OF THE COLLECTIONS AND ALL ITS ASSETS; CHARITY NAVIGATOR AWARDED ITS HIGHEST 4-STAR RATING FOR THE 9TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR.
