EDUCATION/VISITATION - THE USS CONSTITUTION MUSEUM WELCOMED 286,646 VISITORS DURING FY23, INCLUDING OVER 18,000 WHO EITHER VISITED AS PART OF ORGANIZED SCHOOL, CAMP OR GROUP VISITS OR PARTICIPATED IN A VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP. THE MUSEUM IS OPEN 7 DAYS PER WEEK AND CHARGES NO ADMISSION FEE TO ENSURE THAT ALL WHO WISH TO LEARN ABOUT USS CONSTITUTION CAN VISIT. WE CONTINUE TO SHARE CONSTITUTION'S STORY WITH A NATIONAL AUDIENCE THROUGH A VARIETY OF ONLINE ACTIVITIES, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND VIRTUAL FIELD TRIPS. IN 2022, THE MUSEUM WAS NAMED THE 5TH BEST HISTORY MUSEUMS IN THE COUNTRY BY USA TODAY FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW.
EXHIBITS - THE MUSEUM'S PARTICIPATORY EXHIBITS CONSISTENTLY RECEIVE HIGH MARKS FROM OUR GUESTS. "ALL HANDS ON DECK" IS AN AWARD-WINNING, HANDS-ON EXHIBIT ABOUT "OLD IRONSIDES'" 1812 CREW. "FOREST TO FRIGATE" COMBINES HISTORY AND STEM LEARNING TO EXPLORE THE SHIP'S DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION. "OLD IRONSIDES IN WAR IN PEACE" (OIWP) TRACES CONSTITUTION'S 225 YEAR HISTORY. "HEAR MY STORY: TODAY'S CREW OF USS CONSTITUTION" FEATURES VIDEO INTERVIEWS WITH THE ACTIVE-DUTY CREW. "JOIN THE CREW" IS A NEW INTERACTIVE ONLINE EXHIBIT. IN FY23, THE MUSEUM REMODELED THE BATTLE SECTION OF OIWP, OPENED A NEW "LEGO SHIPYARD" EXHIBIT, AND HOSTED THE 43RD ANNUAL MASTERS OF MINIATURE MODEL SHOW WITH A COMPLEMENTARY PHOTO SHOW.
COLLECTIONS - THE MUSEUM HOUSES THE LARGEST COLLECTION OF USS CONSTITUTION-RELATED OBJECTS WITH NEARLY 2,000 ARTIFACTS AND OVER 10,000 ARCHIVAL MATERIALS. A 2,400 VOLUME LIBRARY IS AVAILABLE TO RESEARCHERS, STUDENTS AND THE PUBLIC BY APPOINTMENT. IN FY23, THE MUSEUM ACQUIRED OVER 300 NEW ARTIFACTS AND ARCHIVAL RECORDS THROUGH DONATIONS AND PURCHASES. THE SCOPE AND BREADTH OF THESE NEW ACQUISITIONS CONTRIBUTES TO THE MUSEUM'S COMPREHENSIVE COLLECTION OF MATERIAL RELATED TO "OLD IRONSIDES." THE MUSEUM IS A CONSCIENTIOUS STEWARD OF THE COLLECTIONS AND ALL ITS ASSETS; CHARITY NAVIGATOR AWARDED ITS HIGHEST 4-STAR RATING FOR THE 10TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR.
