SEE SCHEDULE OEXHIBITIONS:THE MUSEUM RETURNED TO IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING IN AUGUST 2021. FOLLOWING ARE DESCRIPTIONS OF THE EXHIBITIONS PRESENTED BY THE MUSEUM IN 2021:- LAND OF THE THUNDER DRAGONIT IS IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE THE COMPLEXITIES OF ANY CULTURE. GIVEN THE GLOBAL NATURE OF TODAY'S SOCIETIES, INFLUENCES BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE AFFECT CULTURES, KEEPING SOME TRADITIONS WHILE SHEDDING OTHERS. THE IMAGES YOU SEE AND THE WORDS YOU READ ON THE WALLS DO NOT REPRESENT ALL OF BHUTAN. IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR A WESTERN MUSEUM TO ACCURATELY REPRESENT ALL ASPECTS OF A CULTURE OTHER THAN ITS OWN. AS WITH ALL EXHIBITIONS THIS IS ONLY A SNAPSHOT, A GLIMPSE SEEN THROUGH THE IMAGES AND WORDS OF TWO BERKSHIRE BASED PHOTOGRAPHERS, DAN MEAD AND SALLY EAGLE, WHO TRAVELED TO BHUTAN AS INVITED GUESTS OF THE GOVERNMENT. OUR FOCUS IS ON THEIR CONNECTION TO THE BHUTANESE PEOPLE AND THEIR EXPERIENCES ENTERING THE COUNTRY OVER A 22-YEAR PERIOD. THESE 26 IMAGES REPRESENT ONLY A FRACTION OF THE SCENES AND EVENTS THEY DOCUMENTED.- MUH-HE-CON-NE-OKORIGINALLY, THE NATIVE PEOPLE WHO MADE UP THE STOCKBRIDGE-MUNSEE TRIBE CAME FROM MASSACHUSETTS, NEW YORK, AND PENNSYLVANIA. DURING THE 1770S, STOCKBRIDGE - A MIXED NATIVE AND WHITE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY - WAS FORMED IN WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS, LARGELY DRAWING ON MEMBERS OF THE MAHIKAN OR MOHICAN TRIBE WHICH OCCUPIED EASTERN NEW YORK, WESTERN MASSACHUSETTS OR WESTERN CONNECTICUT. IN WISCONSIN, THEY WERE LATER JOINED BY MUNSEES WHO HAD MOVED FROM THEIR HOMELAND IN SOUTHEASTERN NEW YORK AND NORTHEASTERN PENNSLYVANIA TO CANADA AFTER THE REVOLUTIONARY WAR. THE MUNSEE WERE PART OF THE GROUP OF TRIBES CALLED DELAWARE, OR LENNIS LENAPE, WHOS CULTURE WAS SIMILAR TO THAT OF NEW ENGLAND ALGONKIANS.- OBJECTS AND THEIR STORIESBERKSHIRE MUSEUM IS HOME TO A COLLECTION OF MORE THAN 40,000 HISTORIC ARTIFACTS, WORKS OF ART, AND SCIENTIFIC SPECIMENS. LIKE EVERY PERSON, EACH OBJECT HAS A STORY AND A HUMAN CONNECTION. BY ASKING HOW IT WAS MADE OR USED, OR WHERE, OR WHEN, OR WHY, OR BY WHOM, WE CAN DISCOVER UNEXPECTED LINKS BETWEEN TIME AND PLACE TO INSPIRE NEW WAYS OF THINKING. SPANNING CENTURIES AND THE CIRCUMFERENCE OF THE EARTH, THESE OBJECTS HELP US UNDERSTAND OUR PLACE IN THE WIDER WORLD. OBJECTS AND THEIR STORIES AIMS TO DO JUST THAT. HERE YOU WILL ENCOUNTER IDEAS AS VARIED AS OUR COLLECTION. SECTIONS WILL BE REGULARLY UPDATED, AND NEW PIECES PUT ON DISPLAY SO THAT MORE ARTIFACTS, ARTWORK, AND SPECIMENS CAN BE APPRECIATED. THIS EVER-EVOLVING EXPERIENCE ALLOWS MORE STORIES TO BE SHARED AND NEW CONNECTIONS TO BE MADE.
