RESIDENTIAL SERVICES: 74 INDIVIDUALS WERE SUPPORTED WITH THEIR DAILY LIVING SKILLS AND RECREATIONAL OUTINGS IN 14 HOMES WITH 24 HOUR STAFFING AND 18 INDIVIDUALS WERE SUPPORTED IN 15 INDEPENDENT COMMUNITY SITES WITH REGULAR STAFF VISITS TO ASSIST IN ACHIEVING THEIR PERSONAL GOALS. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM IS TO PROVIDE SAFE AND COMFORTABLE HOMES THAT GIVE INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE AN INDEPENDENT AND MEANINGFUL LIFE.
DAY PROGRAMS: OVER 220 INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES ARE PROVIDED WITH DAYTIME ACTIVITIES 5 DAYS A WEEK IN 4 DIFFERENT SITES OR WITHOUT WALLS SO THEIR ABILITIES ARE DEVELOPED THROUGH RECREATION, COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT AND VOLUNTEERING. THE OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO ASSIST INDIVIDUALS WITH DISABILITIES IN BECOMING INDEPENDENT, CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY.
EDUCATION SERVICES: THE STARTING PLACE IN HUDSON IS OUR PRE-SCHOOL, UNIVERSAL PRE-KINDERGARTEN FOR THE HUDSON, NY, SCHOOL DISTRICT AND DAY CARE CENTER FOR THREE-TO FIVE-YEAR OLDS AND THEIR FAMILIES. CLASSROOMS AND DAYCARE ARE STAFFED WITH A HIGH ADULT-TO-CHILD RATIO AND INTEGRATE CHILDREN WHO ARE EXPERIENCING DISABILITIES ALONG WITH THOSE WHO ARE NOT. OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS AND ASSISTANTS PROVIDE EDUCATIONAL INSTRUCTION USING A DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE PLAY-BASED CURRICULUM. CLASSES FOCUS ON ADAPTIVE, FINE AND GROSS MOTOR SKILLS, COMMUNICATION SKILLS AND IMPROVING SOCIAL, EMOTIONAL, COGNITIVE AND SENSORY IMPAIRMENTS. CLINICIANS PROVIDE INDIVIDUALIZED ATTENTION THROUGH SPEECH, OCCUPATIONAL AND PHYSICAL THERAPY, SOCIAL WORK AND PSYCHOLOGICAL SERVICES. GUIDELINES FOR THE STARTING PLACE DAY CARE CENTER ARE SET AND MONITORED BY THE OFFICE OF CHILDREN AND FAMILY SERVICES FOR PROVISION OF QUALITY DAY CARE.
