WITH THE ONGOING SHUTDOWN OF LIVE PERFORMANCES ACROSS NEW YORK CITY, THE NEW GROUP INNOVATED AND FOUND NEW WAYS TO SHARE THE POWER OF THEATER WITH ARTISTS, AUDIENCES, AND STUDENTS UTILIZING DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY. THE NEW GROUP CREATED NEW ARTISTIC PROJECTS, EDUCATION PROGRAMS, AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES TO TRANSCEND THE LIMITATIONS OF THE CURRENT MOMENT AND FULFILL OUR MISSION OF BEING A FORUM FOR THE PRESENT CULTURE.(CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)ARTISTIC PROGRAMMINGTHE NEW GROUP BEGAN FY21 BY PRESENTING THE FINAL PLAYS IN OUR FIVE PLAY REUNION READING SERIES WITH TWO ICONIC WORKS BY WALLACE SHAWN - EVENING AT THE TALK HOUSE AND AUNT DAN AND LEMON. IN FY21, THE NEW GROUP FORMED TNG OFF STAGE LLC (SEE SCHEDULE R, PART III), AND LAUNCHED THE NEW GROUP OFF STAGE. OFF STAGE PROJECTS CELEBRATE WORK AT THE INTERSECTION OF ART, MULTIMEDIA, AND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT, SHOWCASING THEATRICAL WORK THROUGH WEB SERIES, FEATURE FILMS, AND AUDIO PLAYS. OTHER PLAYS IN THE REUNION READING SERIES - SHARR WHITE'S THE TRUE, BETH HENLEY'S THE JACKSONIAN, AND THE SPOILS BY JESSE EISENBERG - WERE RE-RELEASED AS PART OF OUR OFF STAGE COLLECTION ON THE NEW GROUP'S WEBSITE FROM NOVEMBER 2020 - APRIL 2021.THE NEW GROUP RECEIVED PERMISSION FROM THE BECKETT ESTATE TO CREATE A FILM VERSION OF WAITING FOR GODOT, ALSO RELEASED VIA THE NEW GROUP OFF STAGE. THE FILM WAS DIRECTED BY SCOTT ELLIOTT AND FEATURED ETHAN HAWKE (VLADIMIR), JOHN LEGUIZAMO (ESTRAGON), WALLACE SHAWN (LUCKY), TARIQ TROTTER (POZZO), AND DRAKE BRADSHAW (BOY). FILMING TOOK PLACE REMOTELY IN FEBRUARY 2021. WAITING FOR GODOT WAS AVAILABLE FOR AUDIENCES TO STREAM FROM MAY - JULY 2021 AND WAS VIEWED BY 2,230 HOUSEHOLDS.NEW WORKS DEVELOPMENTFOR MANY SEASONS, THE NEW GROUP/NEW WORKS PLAY AND MUSICAL DEVELOPMENT HAS BEEN THE PRIMARY PIPELINE FOR PLAYS AND MUSICALS THAT HAVE RECEIVED THEIR WORLD-PREMIERE AT THE NEW GROUP. THESE DEVELOPMENTAL ACTIVITIES CONTINUED THROUGHOUT FY21, THOUGH AT A REDUCED CAPACITY AND REMOTELY. IN FY21 THE NEW GROUP RECEIVED OVER 200 SUBMISSIONS TO THE NEW GROUP/NEW WORKS PROGRAM. WITH THE SUPPORT OF THE NEW YORK STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS, THE NEW GROUP WAS ABLE TO COMMISSION A NEW PLAY BY MEGAN CHAN MEINERO ENTITLED HELL'S CANYON, AND WORKED CLOSELY WITH MS. MEINERO AS SHE DEVELOPED IT. MS. MEINERO FOCUSED ON HONING HER VISION FOR HELL'S CANYON, PREPARING IT FOR A SERIES OF READINGS THAT WILL OCCUR IN FY22. THE NEW GROUP ALSO HELD IN-HOUSE ZOOM READINGS OF PLAYS BY GRACIE GARDNER, DIANE EXAVIER, AND WILL ARBERY.EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMSTHE NEW GROUP CONTINUED OFFERING FREE THEATER EDUCATION PROGRAMS TO NEW YORK CITY PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS, INCLUDING A NEW PROGRAM FOR REMOTE EDUCATION: MY STORY: TRANSFORMING PERSONAL STORIES FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS. THOUGH MY STORY, STUDENTS USE IMPROVISATION AND THEATER EXERCISES TO UNLOCK THEIR CREATIVITY AND CREATE TWO MONOLOGUES THAT ARE TRANSFORMED INTO ESSAYS AND INTERVIEW STORIES FOR COLLEGE APPLICATIONS. THE NEW GROUP WORKED WITH THE COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATION LA UNIDAD LATINA FOUNDATION TO OFFER PRIORITY ENROLLMENT IN MY STORY TO FIRST GENERATION STUDENTS PARTICIPATING IN THEIR COLLEGE ACCESS PROGRAM, Y TU TAMBIEN. THE NEW GROUP OFFERED A TOTAL OF EIGHT MY STORY COURSES IN FY21, TWO EACH QUARTER. STUDENTS MET ONLINE ONCE A WEEK, AFTER SCHOOL FOR TWO HOURS. THE AVERAGE CLASS SIZE WAS 12 STUDENTS PER COURSE, WITH A TOTAL OF 113 PARTICIPANTS. 100% OF PARTICIPATING SENIORS WERE ADMITTED TO A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY INCLUDING CORNELL, COLUMBIA, GEORGETOWN, UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO, AND YALE. THE NEW GROUP RESUMED IN-PERSON LEARNING THROUGH THE SECOND YEAR OF OUR BFA PROGRAM IN ACTING FOR THEATRE, FILM AND TELEVISION IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LONG ISLAND UNIVERSITY BROOKLYN. THE PROGRAM HOSTS AN AVERAGE OF 15 STUDENTS PER YEAR, AND OFFERS STUDENTS ACTING, VOICE, MOVEMENT COURSES, AND REGULAR MASTER CLASSES TAUGHT BY FIRST-CLASS ACTORS AND DIRECTORS FROM THEIR COMMUNITY WHO WORK REGULARLY BOTH IN NEW YORK THEATER AND ON CAMERA. THIS INNOVATIVE DEGREE EMPHASIZES PREPARATION FOR THE BUSINESS WITH COURSES AND INTERNSHIPS THAT GIVE THE FULL PICTURE OF THE WORK OF BEING AN ACTOR.
