THE LEAGUE OF WOMEN VOTERS OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK, INC. (THE LEAGUE) IS A NONPARTISAN PRO-DEMOCRACY ORGANIZATION WHOSE PURPOSE IS TO PROMOTE INFORMED AND ACTIVE PARTICIPATION IN GOVERNMENT AND THE ELECTORAL PROCESS FOR ALL RESIDENTS OF NEW YORK CITY. IT NEITHER SUPPORTS NOR OPPOSES CANDIDATES OR POLITICAL PARTIES. PARTICIPATION IS OPEN TO ALL PERSONS WHO SUBSCRIBE TO ITS PURPOSES.THE FOLLOWING ACCOMPLISHMENTS WERE MADE IN FISCAL YEAR 2022:THE LEAGUES MAJOR PROGRAMMATIC EFFORTS WERE PRIMARILY MADE THROUGH ITS VOTER OUTREACH AND SPEAKING EVENTS. THE PANDEMIC SEVERELY CONSTRAINED ITS ABILITY TO DO IN-PERSON EVENTS, BUT THE LEAGUE ADAPTED BY LIMITING MOST SUCH EVENTS TO OUT-OF-DOORS AND EXPANDING ITS USE OF VIRTUAL MEETINGS AND TALKS, INCLUDING AT HOME WITH THE LEAGUE, MONTHLY WEBINARS FEATURING SPEAKERS ON CURRENT TOPICS OF IMPORTANCE, AND INAUGURATED A CONSTITUTION DAY ACTIVATION IN 6 LOW VOTER TURNOUT DISTRICTS, EDUCATING NEIGHBORS ON THE IMPORTANCE AND THEIR RIGHT TO REACH OUT TO ELECTED OFFICIALS. THE LEAGUE CONDUCTS VOTER REGISTRATION AND GET OUT THE VOTE (GOTV) EVENTS IN PUBLIC VENUES AND AT THE INVITATION OF COMMUNITY-BASED ORGANIZATIONS, CORPORATIONS, AND EDUCATIONAL AND RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS. THE LEAGUE REMAINED ACTIVE DESPITE CONSTRAINTS OF THE PANDEMIC, CONDUCTING 69 VOTER REGISTRATION AND GOTV EVENTS AND DISTRIBUTED LITERATURE WITH BASIC VOTING INFORMATION ON UPCOMING ELECTIONS, INCLUDING BALLOT PROPOSALS AND RANKED CHOICE VOTING. THE LEAGUE ALSO GAVE 43 VIRTUAL TALKS WITH AN AUDIENCE OF MANY THOUSANDS ON TOPICS THAT INCLUDED RANKED-CHOICE VOTING (NEW IN NYC IN 2021) AND OTHER NEW LEGISLATION THAT AFFECTS VOTERS, VOTER REGISTRATION AND ENGAGEMENT TRAINING, REDISTRICTING, THE HISTORY OF VOTING RIGHTS, AND AN ADULT CIVICS PROGRAM, INCLUDING A PROGRAM FOR INDIVIDUALS WHO WERE PREVIOUSLY INCARCERATED AND OR OTHERWISE INVOLVED WITH THE JUSTICE SYSTEM.
