ARTS PROGRAM FOR YOUTH IN SUFFOLK COUNTY FOCUSED ON ARTS, THEATER, MUSIC, CREATIVE WRITING, DANCE, DJ. PROGRAMS WILL BE IN PERSON AT THE CENTER FOR THE ARTS AT THE BAY SHORE FACILITY AND AT THE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM AT THE BRENTWOOD AND CENTRAL ISLIP SCHOOLS.ARTS PROGRAM FOR YOUTH IN SUFFOLK COUNTY FOCUSED ON ARTS, THEATER, MUSIC, CREATIVE WRITING, DANCE, DJ. WILL TAKE PLACE ON DIGITAL PLATFORMS INCLUDING ZOOM, GOOGLE MEET AND OTHER SERVICES IF NYS IS ON PAUSE, OR PROHIBITED TO RUN AT ITS FULL CAPACITY DUE TO EXECUTIVE ORDERS OR IN ORDER TO ADHERE TO NYS SAFELY GUIDELINES.DESCRIPTION: ART CLASSES THEATER, MUSIC, CREATIVE WRITING, DANCE, DJ. PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOP SERIES INCLUDES THEATER, MULTIMEDIA, MUSIC, DANCE, LIVE DRAWING, PLAIN AIR AT OUR ART CENTER OFFERED BY PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS. COMMUNITY ART PROGRAM INCLUDES ONGOING ARTS, DANCE, GUITAR, THEATER, BILINGUAL STORY TIME, CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOPS TO DEVELOP ARTS AND LITERACY SKILLS. WE ALSO OFFER ONCE A MONTH OPEN MIC AND NOCHES DE ARTES PHOTOGRAPHY AND SKETCH CLUBS. OUR PROFESSIONAL WORKSHOPS INCLUDE THEATER, MULTIMEDIA, MUSIC, DANCE, LIVE DRAWING, PLAIN AIR AT OUR ART CENTER OFFERED BY PROFESSIONAL ARTISTS. TEATRO YERBABRUJA PROVIDES YOUTH-ORIENTED, INTERACTIVE ART-MAKING PROJECTS INCLUDING LARGER PUBLIC EVENTS WITH PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS. WORKSHOPS AND PUBLIC ART PROJECTS ARE DESIGNED TO ENGAGE YOUTH WITH THEIR COMMUNITY AND TO ALLOW THEM TO EXPERIENCE AND CELEBRATE THE POWER OF ART.
THE PUERTO RICAN HISPANIC DAY PARADE IS A TRADITION OF THE BRENTWOOD COMMUNITY THAT BEGAN IN 1963. EVERY YEAR ABOUT 3,000 PARTICIPANTS FROM DIFFERENT ORGANIZATIONS AND CULTURAL GROUPS MARCH WITH THEIR TYPICAL DANCES AND FLOATS THROUGHOUT THE 5TH AVENUES. THE PARADE HAS BEEN CELEBRATED FOR OVER 50 YEARS AND AN AUDIENCE OF OVER 50,000 ENJOY EACH YEAR OF THE EVENT. THE ANNUAL PUERTO RICAN/HISPANIC DAY PARADE SCHEDULED FOR 2021 WAS CANCELLED DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. HOWEVER, TEATRO YERBABRUJA CONDUCTED A VIRTUAL PARADE CELEBRATION. THE EVENT EXPLORED THE LATINO EXPERIENCE ON LONG ISLAND AS SEEN THROUGH THE PARADES 55-YEAR HISTORY UNTIL TODAYS EXTRAORDINARY CHALLENGES AND REASONS FOR CELEBRATION.
