THE ORGANIZATION PRODUCES THEATRE TO INSPIRE EMPATHY AND PROVOKE CONVERSATIONS IN RESPONSE TO THE COMPLEXITIES OF AMERICAN CULTURE WHILE REFLECTING THE DIVERSITY OF NEW YORK CITY AND THAT A WIDE ARRAY OF PERSPECTIVES IS REPRESENTED.

FOR THE PAST 25 YEARS, RATTLESTICK PLAYWRIGHTS THEATER HAS BEEN STEADFAST IN PRESENTING DIVERSE, CHALLENGING, PROVOCATIVE PLAYS THAT MIGHT NOT OTHERWISE BE PRODUCED WHILE FOSTERING THE FUTURE VOICES OF THE AMERICAN THEATER. OUR MISSION IS TO PRODUCE AMBITIOUS PLAYS TO INSPIRE EMPATHY AND PROVOKE CONVERSATION THAT WILL LEAD TO POSITIVE SOCIAL CHANGE.RATTLESTICK HAS PRODUCED FIRST PLAYS AND EARLY WORKS OF SOME OF TODAYS LEADING VOICES, INCLUDING ANNIE BAKER (THE ALIENS), SHEILA CALLAGHAN (THAT PRETTY, PRETTY), MARTYNA MAJOK (IRONBOUND), DIANA OH (MYLINGERIEPLAY), ADAM RAPP (THE HALLWAY TRILOGY), LUCY THURBER (THE HILLTOWN PLAYS), HEIDI SCHRECK (THERE ARE NO MORE BIG SECRETS), AND JONATHAN TOLINS (BUYER AND CELLAR), AND SAM HUNTER (LEWISTON/CLARKSTON, NOMINATED FOR THE DRAMA DESK AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING PLAY AND THE OUTER CRITICS CIRCLE AWARDS FOR OUTSTANDING NEW OFF-BROADWAY PLAY).EACH SEASON, RATTLESTICK PRODUCES 2-3 MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS, 7-8 FORMAL READINGS AND 25-30 INFORMAL READINGS, AND OVERSEES SEVERAL EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS TO MENTOR YOUNG ARTISTS AND ARTS ADMINISTRATORS THROUGH OUR NEW VOICES/NEW WORKS AND MIDDLE VOICE PROGRAMS. RATTLESTICKS ARTISTIC PROGRAMS SERVE APPROXIMATELY 10,000 AUDIENCE MEMBERS AND 400 ARTISTS EACH YEAR.
