HELPING PEOPLE IN NW CONNECTICUT CARE FOR ONE ANOTHER BY:1)SUPPORTING PROGRAMS DELIVERED BY UNITED WAY SUPPORTED AGENCIES,2)ENGAGING COMMUNITY LEADERS IN UNDERSTANDING THE HUMAN SERVICE CHALLANGES AND, 3)CREATING SOLUTIONS IN COLLABORATION WITH APPROPRIATE COMMUNITY PARTNERS.

FUNDING IS PROVIDED TO NONPROFIT AGENCIES SERVING NORTHWEST CONNECTICUT. IN ADDTION OUR "DONOR CHOICE" PROGRAM PROVIDES CONTRIBUTORS TO SUPPORT OTHER RECOGNIZED NONPROFIT AGENCIES AND UNITED WAYS THROUGHOUT CONNECTICUT. OUR FUNDS ARE DERIVED FROM CORPORTATIONS, EMPLOYEES AND INDIVIDUALS THAT WORK IN OUR 25-TOWN SERVICE AREA.


PANDEMIC OVERFLOW SHELTER WAS MANAGED ON BEHALF OF THE CITY OF TORRINGTON AND NW CT COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS DURING THE COLDEST WINTER MONTHS IN COLLABORATION WITH OTHER HOMELESS SERVICE PROVIDERS IN THE REGION, INCLUDING SUPPORTIVE HOUSING WORKS. THE SHELTER WAS LICENSED TO HOUSE UP TO 40 HOMELESS MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN IN A SAFE AND INVITING ATMOSPHERE.


THE NW CT LEARNING CENTER WAS ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE TUTORING AND OTHER ASSISTANCE NECESSARY TO AUGMENT EACH STUDENT'S FORMAL EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING TO ENSURE THAT EACH STUDENT ACQUIRES THE SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE TO APPLY FOR AND OBTAIN LIFE-SUSTAINING AND REWARDING EMPLOYMENT IN A COMPETITIVE GLOBAL WORK ENVIRONMENT.
