SACK SUPPERS ARE NUTRITIOUS EVENING MEALS DELIVERED WEEKDAYS TO NEARLY 9,300 CHILDREN ACROSS WEST MICHIGAN. EACH MEAL IS PREPARED, PACKED, AND DELIVERED WITH THE SUPPORT OF DAILY VOLUNTEERS. VOLUNTEERS PROVIDED ALMOST 48,200 HOURS OF TIME AND COMMUNITY DONATIONS OF IN-KIND FOOD WHICH HELPED US SERVE A TOTAL OF 1,405,288 MEALS IN FOUR WEST MICHIGAN COUNTIES. WHEN INCLUDING VOLUNTEER HOURS VALUED AT 1,383,000, ADJUSTED PROGRAM EFFICIENCY IS 80%.


ADVOCACY AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT


WE USE OUR FACILITIES AND FARM AS CLASSROOMS TO FOSTER A DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF THE RACIAL, ECONOMIC, AND SYSTEMIC BARRIERS TO FOOD EQUITY. OUR HANDS-ON AND VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION FOCUSES ON NUTRITION AND FARMING, AS WELL AS EDUCATING ABOUT COMMUNITY BARRIERS TO HEALTHY FOOD. OUR YOUTH ACTION BOARD PROVIDES OPPORTUNITIES FOR YOUTH TO ENGAGE IN OUR MISSION THROUGH VOLUNTEERISM. PROGRAM GOALS INCLUDE YOUTH EMPOWERMENT, LEADSERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, AND COMMUNITY CONNECTION AND GIVING, ALL OF WHICH HAVE A LASTING IMPACT ON THE FUTURE LEADERS OF WEST MICHIGAN.


OUR COMMUNITY-DRIVEN FARMING PROGRAM INCREASES HEALTHY FOOD ACCESS FOR UNDER-RESOURCED FAMILIES, REDUCING FOOD INSECURITY. VOLUNTEERS HELP HARVEST TENS OF THOUSANDS OF SERVINGS OF PRODUCE ON OUR TEN-ACRE FARM. THESE SUSTAINABLY GROWN VEGETABLES AND FRUITS GO INTO SACK SUPPERS FOR CHILDREN AND ARE DISTRIBUTED TO COMMUNITY PARTNERS. THIS PROGRAM EMPOWERS THE COMMUNITY BY PROVIDING HANDS-ON AGRICULTURAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES, TEACHING MORE PEOPLE THE VALUE OF EQUITABLE ACCESS TO NOURISHING FOOD.
