BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN FOOD WASTE AND HUNGER BY RESCUING OTHERWISE WASTED PRODUCE TO CREATE DELICIOUS AND HIGHLY-NUTRITIOUS MEALS FOR CUSTOMERS, NON-PROFITS AND FOOD-INSECURE FAMILIES.

LA SOUPE ADDRESSES THE NEEDS OF THE FOOD INSECURE THROUGH A CHEF-BASED MODEL IN WHICH RESCUED PERISHABLE FOOD IS TRANSFORMED INTO PREPARED SERVINGS FOR DISTRIBUTION. IN 2020 OUR RESCUE PARTNERS DONATED OVER 1,134,000 POUNDS OF PERFECTLY GOOD PERISHABLE FOOD HEADED TO THE LANDFILL. LA SOUPE DONATED OVER 60% OF THIS FOOD DIRECTLY TO COMMUNITY AGENCIES FEEDING THE FOOD INSECURE. THE REMAINING FOOD WAS TRANSFORMED BY THE LA SOUPE STAFF AND VOLUNTEERS INTO SOUPE AND OTHER PREPARED MEALS. IN 2021, LA SOUPE DONATED JUST OVER 775,000 SERVINGS TO THE FOOD INSECURE. LA SOUPE HAD AN A TEMPORARY COVID-RELATED PROGRAM WHICH PAID SHUTTERED RESTAURANTS TO PREPARE FOOD FOR THE FOOD INSECURE. THAT PROGRAM PROVIDED ADDITIONAL DONATED SERVINGS.
