TO PROMOTE A GREATER AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS ISSUES WITH SPECIAL ATTENTION TO HAWAI'I'S ROLE IN THE ASIA-PACIFIC REGION.

Part 3 - Line 4a

FREEMAN TRAVEL AND AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS: (1) FREEMAN FOUNDATION TRAVEL PROGRAM PROVIDES FUNDS FOR HAWAII HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS TO TRAVEL TO ASIA TO PROMOTE INTERNATIONAL EDUCATION IN HAWAII AND (2) AFTER-SCHOOL CLASS INITIATIVE. DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, NO TRAVEL PROGRAMS WERE ADMINISTERED THIS YEAR. IN THE FALL 2021 AND SPRING 2022 SEMESTERS, 41 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN THE AFTER-SCHOOL GLOBAL STUDIES CLASSES AT 2 PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOLS IN HAWAII. THE GRANT'S CLUB STRENGTHENING INITIATIVES IMPACTED 208 STUDENTS AND 7 TEACHERS.


OTHER HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAMS: PAAC COORDINATED AND IMPLEMENTED VIRTUAL, IN-PERSON, OR HYBRID AFTER-SCHOOL GLOBAL STUDIES CLASSES, MINI CONFERENCES, AN INTERSCHOOL CONFERENCE, AN ACADEMIC COMPETITION, LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS. ALL ACTIVITIES PROVIDED STUDENTS WITH A SAFE ENVIRONMENT TO LEARN ABOUT CRITICAL GLOBAL ISSUES AND PREPARE THEM FOR AN INCREASINGLY INTERCONNECTED WORLD. FOR THE CURRENT FISCAL YEAR, 159 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED IN AFTER-SCHOOL GLOBAL STUDIES CLASSES AT 8 SCHOOLS, 236 PARTICIPATED IN MINI CONFERENCES, 24 PARTICIPATED IN THE INTERSCHOOL CONFERENCE, 46 PARTICIPATED IN WORLDQUEST, AND 10 PARTICIPATED IN LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS.
